SaskTel is looking for a Technical Analyst for Linux and VMWare server support in the Business Sale and Solutions space.


This Technical Analyst position is part of a team which is responsible for supporting the server technologies as part of the Cloud Services offering.

The role will include supporting our existing infrastructure that includes Linux, Windows, VMWare, and other management software. You will have the opportunity to work on new offerings including Microsoft Azure.

As the Technical Analyst, you will be a senior support analyst that also contributes to the design and implementation, of customer instances.

You will be responsible for ensuring the server and storage infrastructure is secure, reliable, and available to meet customer service levels.

There is a strong focus on server security in this role. Expertise and best practices in Linux, VMWare and backup software would be an asset for this position.

***Responsible for all aspects of SaskTel's professional computing environments from product recommendations through to coordination of implementation, development of standards and provisioning advanced technical support. May provide direction and leadership, coordinate workloads, schedule and prioritize activities for other technical positions, subgroups and/or project team. Partners with vendors to deploy new technology or support existing technology.


TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments)

  • Designs, coordinates the implementation and provides advanced support for technical environment associated with the corporate IT infrastructure to meet functionality requirements and ensures cost effectiveness.
  • Designs, implements and supports appropriate infrastructure i.e. tools, standards, procedures, documentation etc. to manage the technical environment ensuring service levels, auditability, survivability and security requirements are met.
  • Plans, coordinates and provides direction for required upgrades to hardware, operating system and layered software products.
  • Evaluates, recommends and directs the implementation of new software and hardware using SaskTel project management disciplines.
  • Manages the full life cycle of various products using a disciplined approach.
  • Performs complex software or hardware installations.
  • Problem solves software/hardware failures while under pressure from impacted clients or customers.
  • Performs Control Office functions and responsibilities for the creation, monitoring, and resolution of hardware and software troubles ensuring Service Level Agreements, Defined Problems Management, and Change Management Control procedures are upheld.


  • Database Administration

  • Plans, designs, automates, implements, and supports the physical structures for databases.


  • Network

  • Plans, designs, automates, implements, and/or provides advanced support and training for SaskTel internal and external customers' route, switch, security, wireless, hardware, and software systems.


  • Desktop

  • Plans, designs, automates, implements and/or provides advanced support for the hardware, operating systems and products that make up the SaskTel and/or customer standard desktop.


  • Server

  • Plans, designs, automates, implements and/or provides advanced support for the hardware, operating systems and products that make up the SaskTel and/or customer standard server environment.
  • Data Centres Consults with Tier III resources and vendors for timely resolution of hardware and software problems as required. Performs continuous monitoring and testing on related systems and elements to ensure security, reliability, and integrity of computer environments. Identifies security vulnerabilities, analyzes errors in system configurations, and applies recommended resolutions. Conducts selected tests of information security measures. Ensures client awareness of SaskTel's policies and procedures related to the data centre environment.


  • Unified Communications

  • Plans, designs, automates, implements, and/or provides advanced support and training for internal and external customers' collaboration hardware and software systems.

QUALIFICATIONS
a) University degree in Computer Science or Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Information Engineering or Electrical Engineering specializing in electronics or communications with 2 years experience. OR
b) Technical Institute diploma in Data Processing or Computer Technology or Electronic Engineering Technology with 3 years experience. OR
c)

University degree in one of the following disciplines with a minor in Computer Science:
Administration, Commerce, Science/Engineering or Mathematics, or SaskTel sponsored retraining program with 3 years experience. OR
d) Certified Professional Designation (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Information Systems Professional (ISP) or Cisco Certification (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE), etc. with 4 years experience. OR
e) 5 years experience in the identified technology area i
