Position Summary

Reporting to the Chair Workforce Development, Employment Services and Academic Upgrading, the Employment Advisor is responsible for providing clients with an orientation to programs and services, determining eligibility for participation.

Further, the Employment Advisor is responsible for completing an intake on an individual basis to create an Employment Action Plan, which will identify employment needs and the most appropriate interventions to move clients towards employment.

The Employment Advisor may also design and deliver workshops to convey program information or impart effective job search skills and strategies in a group setting.

The Employment Advisor is also responsible for the effective case management of clients including:

individual coaching for the delivery of a full range of pre-employment information and job search techniques; referral to community resources; the creation/revision of cover letter and resumes; providing support towards skills training and Second Career; and administering employment and training supports where necessary and in order to meet weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly targets as contracted and communicated by the Chair.

The Employment Advisor will also be required to conduct outreach and promote the program, establish and maintain partnerships with community agencies, and attend community events on behalf or Centennial College's access programs within the department.


Responsibilities

Employment Advising:

  • Assists clients with the intake and registration process to verify client eligibility and suitability for employment services and supports
  • Conducts an assessment to assess the 5 employability dimensions and identify employment barriers and needs
  • Collaborates with clients on the creation of an Employment Action Plan
  • Uses tact, diplomacy and sensitivity to guide clients towards programs and services and to develop a realistic employment or training objective
  • Meets with clients on a weekly basis to revise and create cover letters and resumes
  • Offers individual job search assistance, cover letter and resume revision/creation, coaching for job interviews and any other supports relevant to clients employment/training needs
  • Addresses job retention, behaviour, hygiene and other factors that may affect employability
  • Documents client participation, progress and communications in employment service
  • Delivers employment related workshops and program presentations as required
  • Delivers new funded programs and services as required
  • Provides relief reception support
  • Conducts outreach and attends information sessions, seminars, special events, community and job fairs to promote the centres services

Case Management:

  • Responsible for meeting monthly performance targets based on number of units set by the Funder and individual targets set by the Manager
  • Enters clients' and employer information into EOIS-CaMS, creates and updates Employment Service Plans as required
  • Refers clients to community agencies and funded programs and initiatives
  • Liaises with community, social and educational agencies for information sharing, outreach and referral purposes
  • Compiles data and records information to illustrate client activity and outcomes on weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reports
  • Attends and participates in case conference, general staff and service provider meetings

Qualifications/Experience

  • A 2year Career and Work Counsellor diploma or related education in Social Work, Human Resources or Public Administration
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent case management experience working as an employment advisor in an Employment Ontario employment service centre providi
