Reporting to the Manager of Assisted Living and Home Support Programs, the Home Support Worker (HSW) assists residents who are frail or ill to complete activities of daily living.
The HSW may be required to work with clients who smoke in their home, who have pets in the home, or who are experiencing bedbug infestations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete household management tasks such as laundry, grocery shopping, bedmaking, washroom cleaning, vacuuming, mopping and meal preparation.
- Provide emergency first aid and/ or CPR until EMS arrives, when required.
- Receive monies, issuing receipts, and submitting payments to Supervisor.
- Recordkeeping responsibilities: entering data each shift in the electronic data system.
- Keep the Care Coordinator and/or Manager up to date on changes in resident's situation.
- Complete paperwork and/or administrative duties as required.
- Attending staff meetings, performance reviews, and supervision meetings as scheduled.
- Participating in briefings to relief staff during shift changes.
- Attend inhouse training opportunities as scheduled.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 year of experience with Home Support, caring for the upkeep of a home, and completing the daily tasks and responsibilities of independent living.
- First Aid/CPR Training an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal, personal care and household management skills.
- Strong English language skills, verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of other languages an asset.
- Knowledge of Gerontology and Mental Health issues an asset.
- Ability to respond and act on emergency situations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a 'Clear' or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
- MUST be fully vaccinated (two [2] doses) against COVID19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada
