Position Summary:


The National Logistics Vendor Specialist supports national trucking operations from Halifax to Vancouver, ensuring vendors adhere to the company's high standards for Health, Safety, Environmental Sustainability, and Service Quality.

They assist Regional Logistics managers and the Logistics Business unit in maintaining professional relationships with McAsphalt's trucking vendors, including those who haul tank trailers for the company.

Additionally, they monitor and ensure vendor compliance, maintain records, and implement proactive initiatives to inform, educate, and collaborate with vendors to meet all company requirements.

In the long term, they will contribute to setting service performance metrics and KPIs for vendors.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Surveillance (by way of an electronic survey) of all Logistics Vendors relating to Insurance, HSEQ policies and practices, training and certification management, incident reporting, workplace behavior policies and compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements at the Provincial and Federal level.
  • Administer and manage vendor compliance with Insurance requirements ensure risk mitigation and insurance standards are properly reflected by way of insurance certificates and rectify as necessary
  • Work closely with each vendor to explain our requirements, establish reasonable time frames and ensure they are taking concrete steps towards compliance as a condition of employment with McAsphalt.
  • Ensure transparency and alignment with the needs of Regional Logistics Managers and the HSEQ team to prioritize compliance needs and address gaps.
  • Use technology and available CVOR and Carrier Profile records made available by Government to efficiently manage the risk profile of each vendor and milestones on their path forward towards absolute flawless compliance and confirmation from regulatory bodies.
  • Set up a uniform, comprehensive and transparent system for vendor reviews and scoring, based on
  • Volume of worked performed
  • Potential risk for McA based on preliminary review, perceived lack of systems and/or history of incidents
  • Maintain and Circulate Approved Carrier List
  • Develop Carrier KPI Reporting

Required Qualifications:


  • Experience in HSEQ in the industrial transportation space with a capacity for understanding and managing technical and regulatory issues.
  • 5+ years' experience in a Health, Safety, and Environmental role within a manufacturing, transportation, oil and gas or chemical industry environment or equivalent would be beneficial;
  • Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Environmental Professional (RP) designation, Lead Auditor (EMS and QMS) or equivalent would be beneficial.
  • Effective organisational skills with strong aptitude for leveraging technology to simplify, accelerate and bring rigour to data management, analysis and report writing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels within the organization and regulatory agencies;
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and Provincial regulations governing the trucking industry
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (training/presentation, team collaboration and communication) with the ability to influence and persuade others;
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing environment to meet customer and business needs;
  • Experience in large site, multisite or Corporate Trucking environment would be beneficial.
  • Capacity to communicate fluently in French would be a valuable asset.
