Your opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Officer coordinates and manages a complex, longitudinal research study regarding the feasibility, acceptability and effect on sleep and other health outcomes of an intervention (wearable activity tracker and a mobile health app) designed to increase sleep for adolescents.
The Research Officer will use qualitative and quantitative research methods to examine the delivery of the sleep intervention to high school students who sleep less than 8 hours on school nights, with measurement of their sleep and other physiological and mental health outcomes at baseline and after a 4-week intervention period.
A portion of participants will also be selected for semi-structured interviews about their experiences using the sleep app.Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting systematic literature reviews
- Implementing and executing qualitative and/or quantitative research methods
- Preparing draft statistical reports and summaries from data collected
- Analyzing results and preparing statistical reports for research papers
- Fostering positive relationships with project partners
- Tracking and collecting information on project progress
- Drafting summaries of research project results
- Directing the activities of casual staff
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in health sciences (nursing, medicine, psychology, etc.), public health, higher education or social sciences.
- Minimum two (2) years related experience in a research environment, preferably in a university or other large research organization.
- Working knowledge and/or strong interest in mobile app design and testing.
- Experience coordinating research projects using considerable judgment, initiative, and creativity and implementing qualitative and quantitative methodologies (e.g. RCTs).
- Demonstrated experience drafting summaries of research results, preparing written materials for knowledge translation purposes and conducting literature reviews.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection, including participant recruitment, interpretation and analysis through coordination of focus groups, interviews, validated research questionnaires and, and functional tests.
- Experience in data management, conducting basic statistical analysis of quantitative data and performing qualitative data analysis is required.
- Experience assisting with manuscript preparation and preparing materials for conference presentations.
- Strong research, analytical and computer skills (Microsoft Office), database management (RedCap) and quantitative and qualitative data analysis software (SPSS, SAS, NVivo).
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communications skills (oral and written), attentiontodetail and an ability to multitask, prioritize competing demands and the ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Strong computer skills in wordprocessing (Microsoft Office).
- Familiarity with database management software (EXCEL, SPSS or SAS).
- Training and experience in using qualitative data management packages (NVivo).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability in project coordination using considerable judgment, initiative, and creativity.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Clinical experience.
- Familiarity and skill eHealth/mobile health research.
- Working knowledge of mobile app development, cloud data hosting, and objective sleep data analysis (actigraphy).
- Experience working with youth in the codesign of research projects.
