Responsible for an adult learning system that provides accessible, affordable, and high-quality education for Albertans, the Ministry prepares Albertans for lifelong success through education by approving programs of study; funding public post-secondary institutions and other adult learning providers; providing financial aid for learners; registering and certifying apprentices; supporting academic research and innovation.

Role Responsibilities:


  • The Manager, Digital Strategy plays a leadership role in the department's Digital Transformation unit and is responsible for managing the development and ongoing maintenance of the department's digital strategy roadmap.
  • This position's purpose is to ensure that processes and tools are adopted and implemented to identify and evaluate department, client, and staff needs to effectively develop and maintain a department digital investment roadmap in alignment with enterprise level digital strategy principles.
  • This includes working collaboratively with teams across multiple departments to:
  • Lead system architecture reviews to identify system vulnerabilities, opportunities to improve both client experience and process efficiencies, and overall support costs.
  • Manage the ministry intake process by engaging with program leads to ensure long term ministerial priorities, operational needs, and policy direction are represented in the digital roadmap.
  • Enable the department's data strategy objectives and analytic needs through the digital roadmap.
  • Support the development of business cases for funding and resourcing requests to implement roadmap priorities.
  • Support cross department awareness and communication regarding processes and outcomes related to the development, maintenance, and implementation of the digital roadmap through a department steering committee.
  • Develop, manage, and report on a strategic evaluation framework for digital roadmap.

Qualifications:


  • University graduation in Arts, Business or a related field supplemented by at least three years related experience.
  • Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.
  • The following are considered assets for this position:
  • Experience leading and developing staff.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Knowledge and experience with digital or web system maintenance and development, and user experience testing (certification would be an asset).
  • Experience implementing change management principles would be an asset.
  • Training and experience in project management or product management would be an assest.
  • Experience with agile delivery practices would be an asset.
