Position Overview
Reporting to the Director, Underwriting, the Underwriting Consultant assumes responsibility for the risk selection in order to meet departmental objectives.
Responsibilities
- Underwrites complex facultative underwriting risks, according to RGA underwriting guidelines
- Possesses an advanced understanding of both medical and financial underwriting techniques, and stays current on related industry trends and advancements
- Provides advanced technical expertise and support to client companies
- Demonstrates ability to work productively in high pressure environment and effectively and proactively manage challenging situations
- Acts independently on large and/or complicated cases, within specified authority
- Cosigns cases from more junior underwriters and provides guidance, training and mentoring
- Actively supports the department management by providing input, assisting in training, leading team discussions, participating in projects, and being a positive contributor to the resolution of technical or client issues
- Liaises with other RGA departments to share knowledge and assist with client projects, as necessary
- Participates in RGA events and industry activities & fosters relationships with key clients
Requirements Qualifications**:
- College diploma or University degree or equivalent working experience
- 710 years of experience in direct or reinsurance underwriting, working in High Net Worth and large case underwriting
- FLMI or FALU designations, or significant progress towards obtaining these or other related industry designations
- Bilingual French/English (oral and written) is required given the need to communicate orally and in writing with a predominantly Englishspeaking clientele based outside of Quebec.
- Multiple lines of business (Life, DI, CI) an asset

- Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, insurance and contract law, and accounting principles as applied to risk selection
- Ability to make complex decisions based on limited data, and explain the basis of those decisions

- Ability to read and comprehend a large volume of advanced medical and complex financial information in a timely fashion
