About the role


The work of Building Systems Technician is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as
Canada's Lifeline. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the facilities and grounds in accordance with internal policies and procedures and external regulatory requirements.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Providing operation and maintenance of all systems and equipment associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems and all water treatment systems
  • Performing Inspections, testing, verification, and maintenance all life safety equipment operation
  • Performing generalized departmental support functions and maintenance of buildings and grounds as required
  • Carrying out after hours emergency response oncall duties on a rotational basis or as required by schedules
  • Contracting management: Supervise contractors and ensure contract specifications are being met according to CBS regulatory requirements
  • Completion of all required documentation related to work accurately and in a timely manner

Required Skills:


  • Postsecondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably in Heating & Cooling or Electrical systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required
  • Building Environmental Systems Operator Class I and Class II Certificate or Systems Maintenance Technician or comparable
  • Six months of experience operating and/or monitoring building automation systems
  • Wellrounded understanding of Emergency Power Systems (production and life safety diesel generators)
  • Required to be oncall on a rotational basis
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Ability to transfer technical knowledge to others
  • Knowledge and use of card access systems for Security purposes
