The opportunity


Are you a strong visual storyteller with a keen interest in content that creates a positive impact? We are looking for a passionate and creative Field Producer who is excited about telling stories that matter to Ontarians.

_The Thread with Nam Kiwanuka _is a half hour show on broadcast and digital platforms that puts the lived experience of the individual at the center of its storytelling.

We tackle real-life issues, offering solutions through engaging interviews and compelling visual storytelling.


How you will make an impact

  • Collaborate with the production team to shape the creative vision of the series for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Develop and pitch compelling story ideas centered around real people and important social issues.
  • Conduct research to uncover unique angles and solutions related to each episode's theme.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Lead Producer, Host and Chase Producers, ensuring a unified vision across all aspects of production.
  • Direct field shoots and work with Host to capture powerful visuals and conduct interviews that capture the essence of each story.
  • Write shooting scripts and other written materials to ensure the smooth execution of production.
  • Work closely with editors to craft engaging narratives that explore social problems and highlight innovative solutions.
  • Keep abreast of current events and social issues to ensure the series remains relevant and impactful.
  • Maintain a collaborative and positive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation.
  • Identify compelling content to post on social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram.

What you will bring to TVO

  • Five or more years' experience as a Field Producer, preferably in journalism or documentary production.
  • Strong storytelling skills with a focus on visual storytelling.
  • Excellent research and writing skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of producers, hosts, editors and other production staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing content related to social issues and solutions.
  • Strong organizational, communication and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with industrystandard production tools and techniques.
  • A reel or portfolio showcasing previous work in visual storytelling.
  • Flexibility to travel in Ontario for field shoots and work in a fastpaced, dynamic environment.
  • A clear understanding of the distinctive styles of broadcast, digital and social media platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and meet strict deadlines while maintaining strong editorial judgement and creativity.
