About Us
Days of Action Committee (DOAC) contributes to a healthy, supportive, compassionate, and inclusive university campus community.

We do this through observing six specific global days of action that relate to mental health, wellbeing, and social connection:


  • September 10: World Suicide Prevention Day
  • October 10: World Mental Health Day
  • November 21: World Hello Day
  • February 20: World Social Justice Day
  • March 20: International Day of Happiness
  • April: Annual evaluation and review


Days of Action committee members are from 20 different student service units, staff, faculties and student groups who work collaboratively to plan and implement programming across North Campus, Augustana, and Campus Saint-Jean.


Role Description


DOAC Internship is an opportunity to be involved with work in our campus community that aims to foster increased understanding of mental health issues and a compassionate response between our community members to create a more supportive campus community for all.


As a Working Group Co-Chair, Interns will work with the Days of Action Chair to provide administrative support and leadership to campus based interdisciplinary working groups that are planning and implementing programming for Days of Action in the academic year.

There are two Internship positions available. Each intern will be responsible for co-chairing alternating Days of Action.

Responsibilities

  • Support project planning, implementation, and evaluation of three (3) Days of Action.
  • Planning and attending working group meetings (35x month when program planning is active).
  • Attend monthly Days of Action Committee meetings (4th Wednesday at 1:30pm).
  • Liaise with the Communications team.
  • Perform administrative functions to support program planning, including but not limited to:
  • Creating Meeting agendas
  • Taking minutes
  • Making room bookings
  • Sharing updates at committee meetings
  • Scheduling meetings required to complete program planning
  • Documentation for program planning
  • Compile participation data, surveys, and feedback into project reports
  • Attend/support programming planned for all Days of Action.
  • Other duties as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be current students who have completed at least one full year of their education at the University of Alberta.
  • Must be enrolled in U of A studies from June April 202
  • Applicants must be able to work in person from North Campus.
  • Experience working on teams is an asset.
  • Personal interest in mental health and community wellbeing.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication (oral and written), and timemanagement skills required.
  • Flexibility in your study schedule that will allow for office hours during the work day. Interns are asked to work three hours a week in the office (located on North Campus) between 8:30 am 4:30 pm.

Additional time will be spent:

  • Working on admin tasks remotely (with the option of more inoffice time if desired by the intern).
  • Attending committee meetings (1:30 2:30 on the 4th Wednesday of each month),
  • Working group meetings (1h hour a week),
  • Implementing programming.
  • Monthly team meetings with broader student staff team on Wellness Supports
