Red Oak Villa is currently seeking a Full-Time Activity Assistant to join its team.

The Activity Department is committed to providing a clean, safe "Leisure for Life" environment where residents, tenants, family, friends and volunteers can enjoy a wide variety of activities that contribute to their overall wellness - mind, body and spirit.


Qualifications:


  • Secondary education or additional education in recreation or a degree/diploma in gerontology is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with seniors and in an activity department is an asset.
  • A genuine interest in seniors and the ability to work well with those who have physical or cognitive limitations.
  • Ability to read, write and effectively communicate (both written and oral) in English.
  • Able to perform physical work; (i.e. serve tea/coffee, ability to lift up to 50lbs)
  • Fun to be with, organized, sensitive, enthusiastic, patient, tactful and mature.
  • Able to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, volunteers, residents and families.
  • Experience in planning, organizing and managing events is an asset.
  • Strong leadership, motivational and problemsolving skills to design and implement successful programs.
  • Strong organizational, teamwork and timemanagement skills.
  • Capable of working efficiently in a fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to work well independently and under pressure.
  • An understanding of the needs and issues of the older adult is required.
  • An understanding of effective Infection Prevention and Control practices is required.
  • Driver's license with clean driver's abstract is an asset.
  • Must be 19 years of age as Smart Serve certification is required & Safe Food Handlers Certification is mandatory.
  • Good attendance record is required.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required (dated within 6 months of start of employment).
  • TB testing is required.
  • Bilingualism is considered an asset.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

The Activity Department works to achieve the following:_

  • Provide support and programs that aim to maintain previous/current leisure lifestyles as appropriate.
  • Provide opportunities for resident/tenant participation in both new and familiar activities within and outside of the residence.
  • Provide therapeutic programs that meet the physical, social, psychosocial and spiritual needs of each resident and tenant.
  • To identify safety hazards within the physical environment and immediately report these to the JHSC.
  • To adhere to all safety measures and other precautions for the protection and comfort of the residents, family members, employees and volunteers.
  • Our policy on Covid19 Vaccination is currently placed on abeyance. This means that the Policy on Covid19 Vaccination is paused at this time; however, it is not cancelled and could be reinstated at a future date if public health conditions warrant it, or through guidance from federal, provincial, or local public health authorities. The evolution of the virus and the course of the disease activity are difficult to predict and it may be necessary to reinstate the Policy in full or in part, on short notice._
