Position Description:


The Interprofessional Education Specialist (IES) is a leadership role focused on advancing paediatric practice through the provision of interprofessional education which influences clinical, professional and leadership development of health professionals.

Education is an iterative process whereby the Education Specialist is engaged in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs that influence the development of staff and students along the continuum of novice to expert practice.

The vision for the role is operationalized through program development, classroom and clinical teaching, knowledge translation, continuous quality improvement, staff & patient safety, consultation, networking, implementation science, education innovation, scholarship, and leadership.

Strategic directions drive the initiatives that IES's undertake to support and advance clinical practice and a healthy work environment.

You will have direct accountability to the Senior Manager, Interprofessional Education, and the Associate Chief of Nursing & Interprofessional Education.


In collaboration with the leadership teams within the Learning Institute and Ambulatory Care, you will be responsible for the advancement of professional practice for nurses and interprofessional teams through the planning, implementation and evaluation of educational programs and activities for a select group of ambulatory clinics.

Your work will support the strategic goals of Ambulatory Operations as measured through key performance initiatives.

Some examples include Virtual and Digital Care support for policy implementation, Medication Safety practice improvement, Procedural Safety policy update and practice improvement.


Here's What You'll Get to Do

  • You will be responsible for designing and delivering creative education programs and activities that support the goals of the strategic directions of the Hospital, the Interprofessional Education portfolio and the Learning Institute strategic plan promoting continuing professional development of staff
  • You will be responsible for supporting the learning needs of diverse interprofessional staff
  • Use knowledge grounded in theory, research and experience to develop, implement and evaluate educational programs and to integrate core clinical concepts into programming
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to staff
  • Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning and disseminate new knowledge through scholarly work including presentations and publications
  • You will work collaboratively with the IES team, Managers, Directors and interprofessional colleagues in creating a healthy learning and work environment
  • You will be a strong role model for colleagues, stakeholders & staff
  • You are a systems thinker who collaborates with Interprofessional colleagues in program development, knowledge translation strategies and implementation science

Here's What You'll Need

Essential Requirements

  • Regulated Health Professional in good standing with your regulatory college
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Adult Education or equivalent (_preferably completed but can also be in process of completing)_
  • Your background includes strong specialty clinical paediatric expertise, transferable to the Ambulatory setting
  • Minimum of three to five years of recent clinical pediatric care experience
  • Selfdirected and motivated, pushes boundaries, innovative and creative.
  • A growth mindset focused on building capacity in oneself and others.
  • Demonstrated experience with theoretical and practical work in adult education including program planning, change leadership, and project management
  • Experience in teaching in both clinical and classroom settings (including one on one and group teaching)
  • Strong coaching and mentoring abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently and collaboratively within the interprofessional team
