THE POSITION:

Fairness, Integrity, Respect, Excellence_**Under the management of Urban Family Services, and daily supervision of the KidsFirst Supervisor, the KidsFirst Home Visitor will provide in-home support services for families with young children under the Provincial Government KidsFirst Initiative.

The Home Visitor will support and strengthen the parental capacities of prenatal and postnatal families through sharing of information, hands on experiences and curriculum materials.

The incumbent(s) will develop and implement intervention plans within program guidelines, provide referrals, support, guidance and problem solving to clients to address issues related to family functioning.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develop a strengthbased, familycentered approach to promote healthy parenting practices and healthy Early Childhood Development.
  • Gathers information relevant to the client's problems, needs and risks by interviewing, observing behaviour, and using a variety of inventories, checklists and questionnaires.
  • Assessment of client information to identify needs and risks, develops and implements an intervention plan within department guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate case management notes, planning, statistics, reports, program evaluations, and provide reports to supervisor as required.
  • Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
  • Plans and conducts one on one or family educational sessions on topics related to child development and family functioning.
  • Provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
  • Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers, professionals and school personnel as required. Advocate/Accompany clients to meetings and appointments as required.
  • Work collaboratively, demonstrate professional presence, maintain effective working relationships with diverse staff and clientele.
  • Adhere to security and confidentiality while maintaining file system of clientele.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


  • University degree in social work, BISW or BSW, or 2 years combined education in social sciences, social work, or human service field.
  • Oneyear related experience providing support services to families and children.
  • Experienced and respective in the diversity of our multicultural society.
  • Current in First Aid and CPR.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledgeable of challenges common to vulnerable families, early childhood development and family dynamics.
  • Knowledgeable in traumainformed care and practice to children, youth, and families involved with child welfare.
  • Knowledge of facilitation and teaching strategies used for one on one and in family settings.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of communitybased programs and related provincial and community support programs.
  • Knowledgeable and respective of our multicultural society.
  • Knowledgeable in Indigenous cultures, practices; holistic models of health and wellness.
  • Ability to do heavy work including transferring program materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to thrive in high stress environments.
  • Ability to work independently and be a supportive team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, writing, and organization skills.

OTHER CONDITIONS:


  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver's license, a reliable vehicle and meet STC's insurance requirements.
  • Must provide a current, original, Canadian Criminal Record Check (CPIC) with vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
  • Flexible to work after business hours.
