MEMORANDUM # Summer RELC

Recognition of Experiential Learning Credit (RELC) Teacher

(depending on the number of students, there may be more than one position available)

Summer Session 2023
This program is part of a pilot with the Ministry of Education. Students enrolled in RELC earn the DEL3O credit.

Through the RELC program, educators and community partners facilitate students' development of transferable skills in experiential learning settings through a variety of teaching and learning methods, models, and approaches, and assessment practices, in a safe, inclusive, and equitable learning environment.

Teachers will communicate with the community partner/organization to monitor student progress, collect evidence of learning, seek input on the student's achievement of the learning goals and skills described in their learning plan, provide classroom activities to support students to be successful in the RELC program, including in the community-based component, and complete a final assessment of the student's portfolio (myBlueprint) and assign a final grade.

The RELC program teacher will work with the students and the community partner(s) or organization(s), the teacher will co-construct a learning plan based on the transferable skills that help make up the RELC:

  • critical thinking and problem solving
- innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship
- self-directed learning
- communication
- collaboration
- global citizenship and sustainability
- digital literacy

Transferable skills are the skills and attributes that students need in order to thrive in the modern world.

Based on international research, information provided by employers, and its work with jurisdictions across Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Education has defined the transferable skills that will help students navigate the world of work and meet with success in the future.

Transferable skills are developed through students' cognitive, social, emotional, and physical engagement in learning.
