DCS is a registered non-profit charitable society whose vision is of a renewed role for men supporting each other and their families in building wellness and strong communities.

Our mission is to facilitate a participant-led community for men's wellness with local activity-based clubs that prioritize supportive relationships, engagement in healthcare, and Indigenous worldviews.


ABOUT THE POSITION
This role is responsible for coordinating and administering both projects and activities under the DCS Strategic Youth Response, NexUp. This will require building good relationships with and supporting our existing partner communities around British Columbia.

This will also be a partnership management role with each organization involved, including local community groups, local Nations, and Health Authorities (FNHA, PHSA, Northern Health).

As such, the Project Coordinator - NexUp (PC) is responsible for communicating well on a personal, community, and partner level; along with providing appropriate information so that the DCS communications team can adequately share the good news.

The PC will be the primary point of contact between DCS and each of our existing BC community sites and is expected to maintain clear and good communication with partner organization reps, community members, facilitators, elders, knowledge keepers, and other key community leaders.


The PC will work closely with both the NexUp Team and the broader DCS Team; and report directly to Teka Everstz, Co-Director.

Decision-making at DCS is done collaboratively, on a management and community level, with local partner organizations, local facilitators/champions, and local elders.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Coordinating project schedules, resources, equipment, and information. Using tools to monitor project/ activity work hours, plans and expenditures.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports.
  • Assign tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management.
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants.
  • Liaising with partner communities, organizations, and facilitators to identify and define project requirements, scope, and objectives.
  • Support team to build relationships, connections, and conversations (onetoone, or in small or large groups) in person and/or online.
  • Create, adapt, and edit existing content and materials for dissemination on NexUp / DC Website and social media platforms targeting information to respective Youth Community Participants, Funders, or Organizational Partners.
  • Assist in the implementation of evaluation surveys and semistructured focus groups for evaluation purposes.
  • Assist in creating safety plans for youth and the communities surrounding youth that are applicable in urban, onreserve, and rural contexts
  • Assist in conducting policy research and advocacy regarding youth involvement in the criminal justice/prison system.
  • Work with the DCS Administrative Team to plan and organize meetings; communitybased activities (i.e. presentations, workshops, retreats), and travel itineraries for communitybased activities outside of Vancouver.
  • Work with the DCS Digital Strategy Team to create new youthfocused content on the DCS website, new social media accounts, and support the preparation of a weekly campaign posting strategy.
  • Reporting to the DCS Team any information about external events, potential partnerships, engagements, and opportunities for collaboration.
  • Attract and support youth/ young adult men (inclusive of queer, nonconforming and diverse gender expressions) to connect through dropins, safe social gatherings, and online sessions.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work location is quite flexible. DCS has instituted a hybrid working model, with both work-from-home and in-office options available to staff. These options are position dependent.

The PC will be expected to have a presence at:


  • Weekly NexUp Operational team meetings
- (Mondays In-person from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM)

  • Weekly DCS Operational team meetings
- (Mondays In-person from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

  • Monthly DCS Team Meetings
- (Mondays in person from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM)

  • Occasional appearances at the weekly Vancouver DC Gatherings
- (Thursday In-person from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM)

  • The role will also have relatively frequent (every 12 months) shortterm (13 days) travel to communities throughout Canada. Office support
