TO Live has an exciting full-time opportunity in its Finance Department in the role of Payroll Assistant.


Reporting into the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Assistant is part of the payroll team that is responsible for processing payroll payments to all full and part time employees, supplementary remittances, and assisting with the administration of TO Live's benefit programs.


ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Payroll

  • Assist with summarizing source payroll data (timesheets & timecards) for input into payroll system.
  • Assist with the maintenance of all full time and part time employee files.
  • Assist with the administration of new hires and terminations.
  • Assist with preparation of and filing of payroll reports and forms as required for government employment programs (Employment Insurance (EI), Record of Employment (ROE), EI request for Payroll information on employees, CPP).
  • Assist with the preparation of other statutory and contractual reports and remittances for payment in accordance with required deadlines. Keep apprised of current payroll practices and legislated standards.

Benefits

  • Assist with the coordination of the group benefit program, union benefit programs, and the pension plan for all eligible employees.
  • Assist with communication between relevant agencies and employees on benefit inquiries. Keep apprised of current statutory program and benefit rates changes, union benefit rates, OMERS contribution rates, and City Manulife insurance premium rates and other plan changes.

Accounting & Administrative

  • Assist with the preparation of the payroll accounting journal entry.
  • Analyze and reconcile payroll balance sheet accounts on a regular basis.
  • Prepare and distributes T4 information slips for year end. Reconciliation of the payroll register to the general ledger.

General

  • Act as backup to other payroll staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Payroll Manager, Director of Finance and/or VP of Finance & Administration.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Canadian Payroll Association certification and/or two to five years of payroll and benefits processing, in a nonunionized and unionized environment.
  • Sound knowledge of payroll administration principles and practices.
  • Sound knowledge of a payroll input software.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation and government benefits.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility in hours and schedules and include work on nights and weekends as required.
  • Lack of natural light in workplace.
  • Travel between TO Live venues as required.
