Primary Purpose of Position
Meridian Lightweight Technologies Inc.

is looking for an innovative and motivated individual with adept problem solving skills and who enjoys working through challenges and learning.

This is an entry level role in a fast paced, team oriented environment in a dynamic and growing automotive division of Meridian.


Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the incumbent is responsible for assisting the Management Team in areas related to health, safety.

To provide the teams at MLTI with information and direction relating to all areas of health and safety issues. To Ensure improved environmental performance, compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, legislation, and customer requirements.


Skills/Experience/Education

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.
1-3 years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety Field

  • Working knowledge of Ontario Health & Safety Act, and Regulations and keep uptodate on changes and knowledge of all health, safety & environmental legislation.
  • Health & Safety Professional designation (i.e. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Canadian Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC).
  • Working Knowledge and/or relative training in Environmental legislation.
  • Solid understating of Human Resources
  • Microsoft Office Professional with advanced Excel skills.
  • Good Presentation Skills.

Responsibilities
-
Safety: Research, write, maintain, and communicate to employees the safety policies and procedures, through implementation and management of the Health & Safety program at MLTI.

  • Conduct regular safety audits (safety awareness & hazard identification).

H&S Co-ordination: Ensure compliance with ALL related Acts, regulations, and standards and to also keep current with these as they relate to our industry.

  • Coordinate H&S audits, PPE audits, Environmental related & ISO audits, external supplier audits, wellness audits and ERT audits.
  • Continuously improve upon and maintain accident investigation data. First Aid and Medical Aid tracking system and create any reports as required.
  • Monitoring PPE usage to continuously improve the quality and needs as required.
  • Complete and coordinate all WSIB related activities and manage all employee Return to Work programs.
  • As required be part of design of new equipment and programs and ensure that New Equipment Sign Offs and Prestart Safety documents are reviewed.
  • Maintaining and monitoring MSDS management system.
  • Assist in writing, modifying, and verifying Management System documents and procedures, and ISO 14001 documents / procedures, as related to safety.
  • Maintain required designation and memberships in regards to HSE.
  • Coordinate safety training, ensuring all employees receive appropriate training.

JH&S Committee: Active member and coordinate meetings at all locations. Assist in follow up with action items.

  • Coordinate any "ad hoc or special" meetings for the committee based on issues that arise.
  • Ensure audits are completed in a timely fashion and that follow up takes place.

Environmental Management: Support the EMS applicable regulations and laws and conformance to the ISO 14001 standard.

  • Other duties as required, including special projects as they arise.
