Position Overview:

  • Older Adult Services is looking for a highly motivated, flexible, selfdriven, and creative individual to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to positively impact the health and wellness of older adults through the development, implementation, and evaluation of neighbourhoodbased social and recreational programs. As part of the Program and Resources Services programming team, this role will collaborate and engage with older adults to design and deliver safe, welcoming, and inclusive programs tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of Kitchener neighbourhoods.

Responsibilities:


  • Programming
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements older adult social and recreational programs in city facilities with a focus on wellness and active living.
  • Ensures programming aligns with corporate and departmental strategies and directions.
  • Evaluates programs to support a quality program experience for participants. Adjusts or adds new programs to respond to gaps, emerging community needs, and feedback.
  • Visits program sites to observe programs, respond to participant concerns, and provide support to instructors and volunteers.
  • Develops sessional templates and course descriptions for entry on ActiveNet.
  • Monitors program registration and make adjustments based on numbers.
  • Independently, or in collaboration with the older adult services team, develops tools and strategies to promote programs.
  • Acts as a resource to staff, volunteers, or community partners related to the older adult programming.
  • Resolves problems and conflicts within programs to ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming program experience for all participants.
  • Collaborates with other city staff, program participants, volunteers, and community partners to develop and implement events.
  • Respond to onsite emergencies and provide first aid as required.
  • Purchase and distribute supplies to program locations.
Staff and Volunteer Coordination- Participates in the recruitment and hiring of program instructors and volunteers and screens, interviews, and orientates

  • Coordinates the work and schedules of instructors and volunteers
  • Provides support, guidance, and feedback to program instructors and volunteers to ensure the delivery of safe, quality, and inclusive programs. Works with supervisor to resolve performance issues.
  • Verifies weekly payroll entry for program instructors according to staff schedules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 2year diploma in a related field (ie. Recreation and Leisure, Gerontology).
  • 12 years related experience in older adult recreational programming, volunteer management and coordinating the work of staff.
  • Valid CPR Level "C" and Standard First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing recreation programs for an older adult population.
  • Excellent leadership skills and demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of staff/volunteers effectively, and to foster teamwork and a positive workplace culture.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problemsolving, time management, and communication skills.
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer using software packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and ActiveNet.
  • Access to reliable transportation is required.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
