The BSO Team Assistant is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As a BSO Team Assistant your typical day will impact in the following ways:

  • Working in collaboration with the Lead to identify triggers and supporting the development of behaviour care plans and approaches to providing care to residents requiring behavioural support as well as their families.
  • Working actively with clients, family and team members to implement care plans for older adults presenting with a risk for responsive behaviours that may be associated with dementia, complex mental health, substance use, brain injury, and/or other neurological conditions.
  • With the Lead, mentors' coaches and collaborates with long term care team members "in the moment" to minimize and/or mitigate client behavioural responses.
  • Together, with the Lead, facilitates (weekly and as needed), client behavioural rounds in collaboration with clinical team members as required.
  • Completing, monitoring, and updating client "Who Am I" profiles.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

  • Minimum (35) years' experience with clients in long term care or residents in a long term care setting.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill working with older adults presenting with or at risk for responsive behaviours that may be associated with dementia, complex mental health, substance use and/or other neurological conditions.
  • Ability to approach highly sensitive issues with professionalism and tact.
  • Current Standard and/or Emergency First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Food Handlers Certificate is required.
  • Previous experience in program planning, documentation, and evaluation required.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check.

Bonus points for having:

  • Training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA), U-FIRST, P.I.E.C.E.S., Montessori, DementiAbility are an asset.
