Manager, Clinical Placement Coordination:


Primary Purpose:

To provide strategic leadership and oversight of the undergraduate clinical placement coordination team and the processes related to student placements and contract instructor recruitment within a provincial context.

The position focuses on management and oversite of the development and evaluation of new student practicum placements, coordination of the clinical placement coordinator team, and liaise with nursing leadership within the Saskatchewan Health Authority and other provincial clinical placement agencies.


Nature of Work:

The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan and is among the most distributed with three campuses and four distributive learning sites across the province.

This position is based at one of the College of Nursing Campuses and reports to the Associate Dean - Academic.

The manager of clinical placement coordination establishes and maintains professional provincial networking relationships that support the undergraduate education program and the clinical placement coordination team through collaboration and problem-solving.


This role is a complex position involving a provincial focus on student clinical practicum placements, which requires strong technical and relational skills and the ability to manage a demanding workload with competing priorities.

Attention to detail is critical, with the ability to plan proactively, while also managing the day-to-day priorities. Travel within the province is an expectation.


Typical Accountabilities:


Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Academic:

  • Implements short
- and long-term strategies that address the strategic initiatives for provincial management of clinical placements and the learning needs of the students,

  • Establishes mutually beneficial partnerships with health care agencies, clinical placement personnel, faculty at the University of Saskatchewan, and partner institutions to develop opportunities for appropriate community and institutionbased practicum experiences.
  • Represents the college at the provincial level health education clinical placement meetings to align and reconcile arrangement of clinical placements for the undergraduate program,
  • Regularly reviews and develops standard work documents to support and guide the work for undergraduate clinical placements and required consultation with clinical course instructors,
  • Implements changes to address current and future challenges while enhancing and expanding clinical placement opportunities for students,
  • Manages the recruitment and retention, and professional development, of clinical placement coordinators and the parttime clinical nursing instructors (e.g., orientation and professional development).
  • Oversees the assignment of work of the clinical placement coordinators across the province,
  • Consults with the Director of Operations and Strategic Planning, and the College HR & finance team to assist the Associate Dean, Academic with the management of financial processes in the assignment of duties for parttime clinical nursing instructors,
  • Hires, mentors and maintains a database of employment contracts of parttime clinical nursing instructors,
  • Responsible for leading all aspects of planning, coordinating, managing, tracking, and evaluating clinical practicum placements organized for the College of Nursing's undergraduate nursing education program by the clinical placement coordinators.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates the appropriate student Health and Safety guidelines and processes (e.g., CPR, fittesting, CRC, pandemic planning, TLR, HSPnet, and WCB consent forms).
  • Assesses the maintenance and analysis of the computerized clinical placement database to maximize the effectiveness of the system.
  • Works collaboratively with all provincial Nursing programs to ensure adequate clinical placements for students.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates special projects related to expanded clinical placement opportunities (e.g., community development practice, international experiences, rural and remote experiences, interprofessional placement opportunities).
  • Actively participates in and provides expertise and knowledge as a member of the Undergraduate Education Committee, Patient Safety Committee, and other committees as required.
  • Develops and maintains targets and metrics to monitor the effectiveness of the clinical placement activities within the college.
  • Requires the ability to effectively manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Provides input to regular and ad hoc reporting requirements for internal and external stakeholders related to the undergraduate clinical placement activities and outcomes.

Education:
Registered Nurse with a master's degree in nursing or equivalent.


Experience:
At least five years of directly related experience in a post-secondary or equivalently complex environm
