Description

The work consists of performing technical work required for the purchase, organization, preservation, use and dissemination of library resources, as well as the use and maintenance of the City's library equipment.

Working hours: 35 hours per week
Sunday to Thursday from 10am to 6pm
*Note: Possibly 2 days per week will be from 2pm to 10pm
In the Youth Department of the Côte Saint-Luc Public Library


Examples of Tasks Performed

  • Organizes and maintains vendor files and trade catalogs and communicates contents to appropriate individuals.
  • Contacts document vendors, routes orders and approves invoices for payment to the manager responsible for the budget.
  • Maintains order and subscription files, notifies vendors of overdue orders; has pricing and delivery errors corrected.
  • Receives documentation from departments and branches and ensures its integration into the collection and files.
  • Classifies materials and reviews periodicals as directed; processes additional or replacement copies, sequels, etc., according to established procedures; maintains the operation of the système d'office (automatic receipt of new publications).
  • Identifies authors, prepares identification cards and prepares the descriptive catalog of documents.
  • Conducts bibliographic research; groups literature queries and verifies bibliographic data
  • Selects volumes for binding or repair; groups periodicals for binding.
  • Assists users by answering routine inquiries, providing technical information on catalogs, helping them locate simple bibliographic information and using documentation.
  • Coordinates and supervises the activities of employees assigned to various technical support tasks related to the operations of the City Library and ensures that the work performed meets the objectives.
  • Monitors the behaviour of the employees for whom he/she is responsible, informs them of any deviation and, if necessary, refers them to his/her superior.
  • Checks films and other audio-visual materials and recommends repair or rejection as necessary, researches innovations in audio-visual equipment as required.
  • Arranges for the loan and borrowing of materials, books, etc. from other agencies and tracks and follows up on them.
  • Organizes filing cabinets of supplementary materials (brochures, newspaper clippings, articles, etc.) into a filing system and completes the required forms.
  • Writes posters, user guidelines, reports and correspondence; checks user orientation devices; assists with library activities.
  • Maintains an inventory of materials and equipment used in his/her work unit, ensures their maintenance and prepares order lists as required.
  • Collaborates on reviews, prepares bibliographies, identifies problems with bibliographic descriptions.
  • Organizes, at the request of his/her immediate supervisor, animation activities for the library's clientele.
  • Uses, as needed, various office automation devices to accomplish certain tasks related to the job, while using appropriate programming.
  • Performs all other related tasks.

Special Requirements

Education:
Hold a specialized college degree, appropriate industry and profile.

Experience:
The job requires one year of experience.

Qualifications:
Very good knowledge of English and French
Good knowledge of documentation techniques

Write clear and concise reports
Demonstrate tact and courtesy
Coordinate and supervise the work of employees

N.B. You may be required to take a competency exam.
