SUMMARY:

As part of Employment Services (ES), the Career Specialist 2-Persons with Disability role will assist clients, particularly person with disabilities (PWD) or in receipt of Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) with their employment goals, job search to m match their skills and interests with employment opportunities and employer needs including offering incentives and supports.

The Career Specialist 2-Persons with Disability may also provide Job Retention assistance, for those clients who need additional coaching and mentoring in order to maintain employment or to progress in their career path.

The incumbent of this position is required to be capable in all aspects of the Employment Services model.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Career Counselling:

  • Assess clients for their current circumstances, abilities, skills, education, experience and goals against job vacancies, requirements and labour market information
  • Develop a customized Employment Action Plan (EAP) that is achievable, realistic and individualized to support employability. This may include vocational, ergonomic, worksite assessments
  • Timely case management including client file updates, case notes and documentation (data enter in case management systems and databases) in accordance to funder and Achev guidelines, process and practices. This also includes EAP progress, follow up activities and providing statistical reporting and any other documentation as identified.
  • Provide employment counselling and motivational coaching that supports successful employment based on the needs of each participant and/or referrals to external organizations for specialized services.
  • Identify those in need of additional on the job coaching support post employability skills development through discussion with participants, OW, ODSP partner and/or the employer as appropriate
  • Facilitate structured and individualized support for conducting successful job search to individuals in a group setting or individuall
  • Provide support to client in assessing their qualifications against job requirements
  • Provide information about and access to professional resources including accreditation, language and education credentials
Workforce Development

  • Assist in matching individuals who are unlikely to succeed in conducting their own job search, even with support due to other barriers to their employment, according to their skills and interests with work opportunities
  • Facilitate work opportunities including hiring, networking events and negotiate employment relationships on behalf of clients including incentive agreements and contracts with individuals and employers
  • Develop a workplace onboarding plan with the employer and the participant where applicable
  • Provide financial support to remove barriers to participation and the employer
  • Conduct outreach to employers to identify opportunities and promote incentive program
  • Ensure that employers meet all eligibility criteria, and may have to conduct site visit with employers prior/during client's employment to confirm a suitable and safe work environment or assess and recommend accommodations such as assisted devices.
  • Where necessary, provide employers with sensitivity/diversity training, workplace safety training and information on accommodation needs
  • Conduct monitors and provide coaching and support during employment including identifying and resolving workplace issues that may affect participant success on the job
  • Administer contract with employers, including the timely processing and payment of financial incentives
Job Retention

  • Work with an integrated service delivery and case management model including case conferencing, service referrals to support a holistic and wrap around service to support employability
  • Maintain frequent contact with participants to support their continuous employment up to 12 months or longer and collect evidence and document their progress
  • Provide onetoone follow up for job or career coaching, to address issues similar to reemployment or provide referral to further training and education and/or life skills
  • Create opportunities for current/post program networking and learning events/activities and may also include new employment opportunities
  • Make recommendations to employers for intensive in work supports or accommodations needed to assist in developing strategies to support clients with complex needs.
  • Provide on the job support as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline

Must have 2 years' experience in an Employment Case Management role working primarily with ODSP/PWD client group

  • Experience in delivering outcomebased or similar employment services
  • Extensive experience with Case Management System and Databases preferably EOIS CaMS and or CaseFLO
  • Knowledge of Ministry Delivered Programs and related guidelines for administration (i.e. Better Jobs Ontario)
