What is The Role

With a focus on service excellence and an exceptional member experience, this position is part of a team of pension specialists that provides member services through all means of communication.

This position ensures members receive accurate and timely pension information and provides clarity to assist members in understanding their benefits under the STRP Plan Text and applicable legislation.


What You Will Do

  • Answer inquiries and provide information through written correspondence and oral communication with regard to STRP plan provisions.
  • Meet with members on an individual basis to explain benefit eligibility and options under the Plan Text. Provide explanations of pension legislation and impact of each option to the member.
  • Calculate spousal relationship breakdown values and provides correspondence on requirements for a marriage settlement payout request and subsequent impact to member's pension.
  • Determine and review the data required to evaluate a member's eligibility for benefit entitlements and other optional pension transactions such as purchases of service, transfers to other pension plans, etc.
  • Train, mentor and coach pension technicians and junior pension technicians.
  • Develop and provide group pension presentations.
  • Create and develop statistical reports for internal analysis and management reporting.

What You Will Bring

  • An undergraduate degree in the area of economics or commerce, 34 years of related pension experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A Pension Plan Administration Certificate or equivalent is preferred. Consideration will be given to those who do not have a pension designation or related experience, as training will be provided; however, the incumbent will be required to enroll and successfully complete the requirements of the Pension Plan Administration Certificate.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in dealing with members, employees at all organizational levels and with officials of other organizations.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated skill in arithmetic and mathematics.
  • Experience and/or training in an automated pension administration system.
  • Good knowledge of pension plan administration principles, techniques and practices.
  • Demonstrated high work standards.
  • Mature judgment.
  • High degree of initiative and motivation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Strong organizational skills.

What You Can Expect

We offer an annual salary range of $60,684 to $75,756, a 35-hour work week plus a full range of benefits, including free parking; extended health and dental care; retirement plan; group life insurance; generous vacation package; sick leave; long-term disability; paid leave to deal with family, and health and sickness and compassionate situations.
