1 Permanent Position

Scarborough Outdoor Education School - Kearney, Ontario

C.U.P.E. Local 4400, Unit D - 12 months

**- Reporting to the Facilities Team Leader, taking day to day direction from the Supervisor of the _

  • Outdoor Education Centre, the Housekeeper will perform a number of tasks and will be responsible _
- for the cleaning of the school.
  • Provisions and conditions of employment to be confirmed at time of job offer.

Summary of Duties:


  • Dust furniture, carpets, floors and blinds;
  • Sweep, floors and outside walks;
  • Vacuum carpet;
  • Empty waste receptacles and remove to central storage;
  • Clean and/or disinfect drinking fountains, sinks and fittings, toilets, windows and sills, lockers,
- furniture, walls, doors and frames, woodwork and trim, and soap dishes;
  • Clean laundry room, classrooms, common areas and hallways;
  • Wash and fold laundry;
  • Clean chalkboards and pencil sharpeners;
  • Damp wipe partitions and walls;
  • Refill of towels and paper towel dispenser;
  • Wash down of mattresses;
  • Brush out dry mops;
  • Water plants;
  • Adjust shades and drapes;
  • Clean up after ill students (including laundry, blankets, sleeping bags, etc.);
  • Plunge toilets, when necessary, and clean up overflow;
  • Secure doors and windows as needed;
  • Turn off lights; and
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • A good command of written and oral English and the proven ability to communicate in a sensitive,
- courteous, and tactful manner.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Information Technology including the use of computers and
  • Commitment to customer service, continuous improvement, and quality initiatives.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with other members of Board staff at all
levels and the general public.

  • A good work record including a record of reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • A demonstrated ability to learn and perform a large variety of jobrelated duties.
  • Proven ability to maintain a level of cleanliness in buildings, grounds and on premises consistent
- with current T.D.S.B. standards.
  • A good working knowledge of the care, operation and maintenance of building heating and
- security systems, building alarm and monitoring systems.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety issues relevant to the role of Caretaker.
  • Physical ability to perform Caretaker duties.
  • A demonstrated commitment to work effectively in an environment which promotes equitable
practices and values diversity.
