Conservation and Wildfire Services is seeking two highly motivated individuals interested in filling the role of District Fire Ranger rovers based out of the Eastern Region Fire Centre in Lac du Bonnet.

The intent of these positions is for frequent roving coverage where needed throughout the region and occasionally throughout province.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must maintain current certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Must be willing to and able to travel for throughout province and work away for long periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and overtime
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position such as lifting, carrying and loading firefighting equipment, and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to be deployed provincially, interprovincially, or internationally as/when required.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience operating small equipment such as fire suppression pumps, chainsaws, brush saws and similar.
  • Experience operating/maintaining riding mowers, light automotive vehicles (i.e. Gators, ATV's), tractors and similar.
  • Experience working effectively in fastpaced environment.
  • Experience providing customer service or working directly with the public.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working independently and with mínimal supervision.

Desired:

  • Experience in building, grounds maintenance, and janitorial services.
  • Experience and/or training in maintenance and repair of small equipment and hand tools.

Duties:


Under the direction of the Regional FR4 or designate: The Fire Ranger 2 performs a variety of heavy and light manual duties associated with maintenance, preparedness and daily inventory control of the equipment used in the fire operation of their assigned IA Base; construction, maintenance, and works operations in the assigned Fire Area; including janitorial duties and general maintenance of grounds and facilities, may be required to operate various small equipment and tools.

The Fire Ranger 2 will be required to operate various equipment including specialized mowers, light motor vehicles, tractors.

The Fire Ranger 2 may also be required to perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, as well as keep daily operating and maintenance records.
