The
Laboratory Technician - Edmonton Fluids, is a hybrid role which covers duties and responsibilities that envelop several traditional laboratory positions; such as sample coordinator, sample analyst, data reviewer, data reporter and field sample collection.


Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities:


  • Must comply with Safety Responsibilities explained in the Safety Responsibility Policy (CA-ADMRS24).
  • Maintain confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Set up and operate various types of laboratory equipment in order to successfully complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a safe, clean efficient workplace for themselves and other employees, and must ensure that all safety infractions are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical expertise, training and support to other laboratory personnel, dictated by their analytical scope, as required.
  • Maintain compliance with the Health, Safety, and Quality Management Systems requirements.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Management Systems, including improvement of performance and reduction of nonconformities.
  • Perform specialized tests and calculations on gas, and hydrocarbon liquid. Derive accurate data necessary to compile reports concerning sample analysis for distribution to company clients.
  • Maintain, calibrate and perform equipment repairs to ensure equipment is functioning in the most efficient and accurate manner possible.
  • Review data and calculations to assure accurate analytical results. Enter data into GCLIMS and ensure analytical requirements are met.
  • Perform appropriate quality control guidelines in concert with the QA/QC program that is utilized in the department to assure accurate analytical results.
  • Perform other assigned duties to ensure that projects are completed on an accurate and timely basis, including organizing the workload to accommodate for the completion of prioritized analysis, and relaying the status of such analyses to laboratory coordinators.
  • Respond to on call situations after normal working hours, as required.
  • Ship and receive sample containers between locations.
  • Enter project information and analytical instructions into laboratory database.
  • Collect samples from oilfield wells and facilities following Core Lab standard operating procedures.
  • Operate company vehicle safely adhering to company policy and Alberta driving laws and regulations.
  • Maintain a class 5 Alberta driver license and a clean drivers abstract.
