Responsibilities:

Supports the Project Quality Manager by providing back-to-back coverage on the opposite shift and represents the quality function at the project leadership level when required and:

  • Delivery of the Project Quality Plan.
  • Communication of the quality requirements as detailed in the Project Quality Plan with all stakeholders
  • Steward the preparation of ITPs, resource them and maintain associated reports.
Monitor equipment and materials to ensure suitability and compliance with project requirements.

  • Surveillance of contractors work performance to ensure compliance to quality requirements as documented in the ITPs
  • Input into work plans and collaboration with EPC Contractors and General Contractors to ensure the best overall work plan.
  • Ensures compliance with the Wood Business Management System and compliance through a structured assurance program.
  • Conduct field quality audits on construction activities as detailed in the Site Quality Audit Plan
  • Assist and support external audits.
  • Provide consultation and guidance on construction work techniques and work procedures.
  • Steward receipt and storage of specialty materials and equipment (e.g. rotating equipment), as well as preservation and maintenance of same.
  • Verify documentation and conduct inspections, verifications and validations of workmanship and materials to ensure compliance to codes and specifications as well as reporting of same. Where nonconformances arise from these activities; reports shall be developed documenting findings, corrective actions, and resolutions.
  • Management of competent 3rd party testing.
  • Steward the calibration, testing, certification and maintenance of construction equipment.
  • Manage the work of QA project service contractors within established cost and schedule targets.
  • QA expertise and advise resolution of compliance issues (i.e. codes, standards, specifications, and regulations).
  • Issuing of and monitoring of nonconformance reports, corrective action reports and preventative action reports to align compliance of codes, standards, spec and manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Input into solving, with engineering, project technical problems / constructability issues.
  • Support the Quality program in maintaining, updating, and driving the completion of corrective actions (CARs), quality surveillance (QSRs), and closing NCRs.
  • Care, custody and control of site quality documentation to verify the quality installed including but not limited to vendor information; "As built" drawings; checksheets.
  • Steward project quality reporting requirements as required.
  • Support the construction quality program in the tracking of monthly quality metrics and KPIs.
  • Supports measures that ensure predictable delivery and continuous improvement using performance data to make factually based decisions. Engaging and presenting project leaders with information and data to enable preventive interventions.
  • Support/Coordinate with construction coordinators, Area managers, HSSE, Engineering, and Supply Chain personnel on material turnovers and construction installations.
  • Supervision and technical support of Site QA group.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years' postgraduation experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years site experience in the mining industry.
  • Trade school or College Graduate in Engineering technology.
  • Membership in the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) or the American Society for Quality (ASQ) (desirable).
  • Formal training in recognized root cause analysis techniques (essential).
  • Comprehensive understanding of ISO 9001 and ISO 1901
  • Understanding of how the various functional/discipline activities integrate into a complete project.
  • Good knowledge of EPCM processes and systems including datacentric project delivery (desirable).
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills, and the ability to work and communicate effectively with coworkers, customers, third party certification providers and suppliers/vendors/contractors.
  • The commitment to identify, analyze and propose solutions to problems in a constructive and positive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence senior management and deal with all stakeholders in challenging situations.
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required.
