Description

The Shipping Supervisor is primarily responsible for performing shipping/receiving work and overseeing the function of the department Floor to ensure that it is operating in a safe, cost-effective manner to ship quality goods to meet all customer order delivery requirements.

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for all shipping /receiving at the Brampton facility.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education:_ High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Knowledge/Skills:_ The incumbent must have an excellent understanding of shipping/receiving processes, equipment and materials used within the department. The position requires knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies as well as health and safety legislation and policies. The incumbent must also have basic computer skills and soft people skills and hold a valid forklift license.

Communication Skills:_Strong oral and written communication skills are required to give direction to staff, co-ordinate with managers and supervisors, and generate monthly status reports.

Length & Nature of Prior Experience:_ At least two years of previous experience is required in shipping/receiving.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Plans, organizes, and supervises all employee on the shipping floor, receiving, load planning and invoicing. Ensures all receipts are files in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures Renin meets the on-time delivery and fill rate requirement of all our customers.
  • Coordinates with the Plant manager, Production Team Leaders, Production Schedulers, Distribution manager, and other plant personnel to attain delivery, cost and quality of service objectives. Responsible for diagnosing and solving routine shipping/receiving problems.
  • Ensures the cost effectiveness of the delivery function, including the control of labour utilization - preventing excess hours, downtime, and overtime.
Provides initial and on-going training and evaluation to assigned personnel related to job duties and performance expectations.


  • Fosters positive working relationships. Responds proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints and other employee relations matters. Supervisors are responsible for employee discipline.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel.
  • Inspecting material when unloading and loading trucks.
  • Ensure all orders are being picked as per the customer ship date.
  • Report and identify any hazards in the workplace. Report any accidents, injuries requiring first aid, health care, lost time injuries, occupational diseases, or incidents immediately to the Plant Manager/Human Resources.
  • Any other related duties that may be requested from time to time by the Distribution manager.
  • Shipping supervisor will be working on the floor with loading and unloading trucks. Picking orders to ensuring the dock is moving efficiently.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:

The position of Shipping Supervisor oversees employees in the shipping/receiving department.

The position reports directly to the Distribution Manager.


The incumbent frequently has working contacts with other production employees, team leads, schedulers, customer service, purchasing, and members of management.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

There is a requirement to keep close attention to detail, such as reports.


The Distribution Supervisor spends much of their time performing physical work in a plant department or an area of the plant and duties may involve driving, lifting, carrying, picking.

Some time is spent working at a computer. Considerable time is also spent walking through the warehouse facilities.


Most time is spent in a production environment with regular exposure to uncomfortable physical factors or risk of illness, noise, moving equipment, etc.


Salary:
$26.00-$34.00 per hour
