The Bishop Strachan School is seeking an Educational Assistant for our Junior School.

The Junior School (JK - Grade 6) is a place to explore, grow, discover, collaborate, create and have lots of fun.

It is the first step in the lifetime adventure of learning.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, we see our students as individuals who are curious about the world around them and have the aptitude and intellect to learn.


Summary of Position


The Educational Assistant will partner with the Learning Resource Specialists to provide differentiated instruction and age-appropriate learning experiences for groups of students between the ages of 4 and 12.

In particular, you will collaborate in the design and implementation of programs and environments which will enhance children's cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.

This role will develop and maintain a professional relationship with families demonstrating genuine appreciation and respect for diverse families, systems and practices.


Specific Accountabilities- In collaboration with Learning Resource Centre and classroom teachers, provide input into the classroom teachers' daily lesson plans, materials, and assessment as well as grading and reporting Works with classroom teachers to develop strategies that support skill-building across all areas of learningAttends faculty, big idea and student of consideration meetings Commits to working with the fundamental principles of an inquiry approach while supporting the development of specific academic skills of individual and small groups of students using differentiated instructional strategies Involved in student and teacher conferences and evaluations Assists with the ongoing supervision of playground, group and routine activities and the implementation of daily activities (indoor and outdoor) Co-curricular activities including athletics and may be required to supervise children after school Participates in day and overnight trips Embeds diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into all processes Commits to the Faculty Growth and Evaluation Process Participates in professional learning and growth opportunities, for example the Orton-Gillingham Approach and the Reggio Emilia Approach.
Skills, Experience and Attributes- Ontario College of Teachers certification preferred Knowledge of differentiated instruction Special education would be an asset Eager to collaborate and work in a team environment Proven ability to contribute to planning discussions Comfortable integrating technologies in student learning A growth mindset of continuous improvement and learning Culturally competent with a positive attitude toward cultural uniqueness and a readiness to accept and respect others Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
