Description

Performs general labor for grounds maintenance, snow removal, sorting recyclables, general freight and furniture handling, and provides assistance to other trades when required.

Able to work from verbal or written direction with mínimal supervision. Ability to operate heavy snow removal equipment and other vehicles. At all times, duties are to be performed using approved PPE and safety procedures.


Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent and able to perform required tasks. A current Class 5 Motor Vehicle License for the Province of Nova Scotia along with an excellent driving record.


Specific Responsibilities:


_GENERAL_

  • Performs grounds maintenance including cutting grass, whipping, raking, shrub and tree maintenance, sweeping, flower bed maintenance, spraying, weeding, trenching, etc. Able to operate powered lawn equipment such as ride on mowers, hand mower and whippers. Repairs and maintains roadways, pathways, parking lots, and campus signage.
  • Performs snow clearing and salting/sanding operations for walkways, stairs, ramps, entrances, roofs, etc. as required. Using snow removal equipment (plows, tractors, etc.)
  • Maintains or clears storm drains, roof gutters, roof drains, ditches etc.
  • Loads and unloads freight, furniture, fragile equipment, etc. ensuring safe preparation for damage free transportation. Assists in the loading/unloading of other transport vehicles as required. Performs office relocation's when required.
  • Operating under set schedules, assists in the pickup and delivery of various products such as mail, A/V equipment, parcels, special deliveries, recyclables, garbage, maintenance equipment or materials, custodial equipment or supplies, furniture, etc.
  • Sorting of recyclables, ensuring items are in their appropriate streams.
  • Ensures lawn equipment is maintained in proper and safe operation. Performs minor maintenance routines such as ensuring the proper levels oil and fluids, regular safety inspections, cleaning of the equipment, etc. Ensures major repairs are reported and performed in a timely and appropriate manor.
  • Assists other Tradesmen when required. May be assigned as temporary Driver (if qualified).
  • May be required to assist physically challenged students, staff, or visitors in special circumstances.
  • Operates Utility vehicles, Tractors, Snow Removal Equipment, and various pieces of equipment as required.
  • Any other job tasks assigned.

Job Types:

Salary:
$20.00-$23.00 per hour
