Responsibilities:


Working from the theoretical frameworks and guiding principles of restorative justice and transformational learning, The Residence Conduct Coordinator role supports the behaviour management and educational discipline practices of Western's residence communities.

Western's residence system actively fosters the personal and social development of students who are held accountable for violations of the Residence Contract.

The role contributes to the overall residence curriculum through the support of the residence life program.

The behavioural management system is designed to promote self-discipline and increase capacity to respect the rights of others.

The Residence Conduct Coordinator will provide support to all residence buildings, using appropriate conflict mediation methods and emphasize educational opportunities that are fostered through the residence behaviour management process.

The role will oversee the issuance and compliance of educational sanctions and facilitate educational seminars.

In collaboration with the Associate Director, Conduct & Conflict Resolution, the Residence Conduct Coordinator will facilitate alternative dispute resolution and restorative approaches to address student behavioural concerns.


Qualifications:


Education:


  • University degree including studies in Behavioural Sciences, Social Sciences and/or Education
  • Master's degree focused in Behavioural Sciences, Social Sciences and/or Education is preferred
  • Certification in Alternative Dispute Resolution training including mediation and restorative justice facilitation would be an asset

Experience:


  • 3 years' professional conduct with demonstrated leadership experience in a postsecondary setting, combined with employment experience demonstrating risk management skills, as well as organizational, customer service and administrative competence
  • Experience with restorative justice practice and other alternative dispute resolution experience is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills and ability to assess priorities, work independently to meet required deadlines with conflicting demands and changing priorities
  • Able to set priorities, delegate effectively and make sound decisions
  • Resultsoriented and able to handle many tasks and maintain a high level of individual and team performance
  • Working knowledge and/or experience building teams within a large community of students, studentstaff, and professional staff
  • Demonstrated welldeveloped collaborative skills and the demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and the public
  • Strong customer service skills to handle inquiries and resolve issues in a professional and timely manner
  • High level of integrity and trust, tact and diplomacy
  • A welldefined sense of diplomacy and judgement including solid negotiation, crisis management and conflict resolution skills
  • Approachable and understanding individual with a high degree of customer focus
  • Good listening skills and an ability to establish effective routines for excellent communication with all members of the team to maximize productivity
  • Ability to handle conflict constructively with welldeveloped conflict resolution skills; mediation training an asset
  • Capacity to establish rapport, support and demonstrate openness to persons of diverse backgrounds and beliefs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with welldeveloped presentation skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability and willingness to be oncall on a rotational basis, and to work seasonally long hours, including frequent events and weekends
