The Opportunity:


Reporting to the Manager, the Clinical Leader supports the efficient and effective operation of PMU by assisting with the planning, organization, and directing of clinical care consistent with the philosophy, objectives, and vision of the IWK Health Centre.

The Clinical Leader role models professional nursing practice fosters the development of an environment in which the desired outcome of all activities is the enhancement of patient care while demonstrating strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

collaboration with all appropriate care team members; identifying and facilitating quality initiatives to improve care; acting as a liaison for PMU with other care teams and departments within the Health Centre and with partners outside the Health Centre; supports the preceptorship of new staff; in collaboration with the Clinical Leader, Development, supports learning opportunities for staff; acts as a resource; in collaboration with the Manager, coordinates patient care assignments and workload for staff.

Participates in recruitment and selection of team members when required.

Your Qualifications:


  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, with CRNNS required.
  • Current successful completion of CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Minimum Five (5) years of PMU nursing experience required.
  • Clinical expertise in pediatric medicine is required.
  • Demonstrated vision regarding trends in pediatric care.
  • Demonstrated expert critical thinking, problemsolving, and decisionmaking abilities required.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning required.
  • Demonstrated expert negotiation and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients/ families, colleagues, and community partners required.
  • Demonstrated expert negotiation and conflict resolution skills required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and practice required.
  • Competency in other languages is considered an asset.
