Reporting directly to the Director, ICU & Critical Care Redevelopment Program, the Clinical Educator is an integral member of the Program's leadership team.

The Clinical Educator role will be in the Intensive Care Unit at the Credit Valley Hospital. This ICU is a Level 3, medical/surgical critical care unit, staffed by a large interprofessional team.


Responsibilities

  • Champion a best practice approach across the organization and in the unit through development, implementation, and evaluation of critical care practice standards
  • Lead the development and implementation of clinicallyfocused initiatives to help drive practice excellence and serve as a key point of contact and stakeholder for organizational professional practice initiatives.
  • Support the establishment and sustainment of unit education and professional development, in partnership with pointofcare clinicians and program leadership.
  • Champion THP's commitment to the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) designation through Best Practice Guideline (BPG) sustainment and evaluation across the organization.
  • Evaluate current state practice environments (strengths and opportunities) including data collection, analysis and recommendation generation.
  • Provide mentorship, coordination and support to the interprofessional team
  • Accelerate standardized critical care practice through representation on various corporate and program committees, particularly in relation to clinician adoption and proficiency of the new Hospital Information System, Epic
  • Assist in the selection and analysis of practicerelated performance indicators to monitor program, and unit level performance to ensure alignment with strategic direction.
  • Work collaboratively with all staff and physicians to facilitate consistent interprofessional practice leading to the delivery of quality patient focused care.

Key Qualifications:


  • Current registration with the College of Nurse of Ontario and in good standing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum five years clinical experience; critical care experience
  • Experience working with seniors with complex medical issues
  • Previous experience in developing and delivering professional development/educational programs
  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills both written and verbal
  • Understanding of adult education techniques and ability to prepare and teach in both classroom and clinical settings
  • Ability to coach, mentor, influence and provide feedback while fostering a positive work culture
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Commitment to evidencebased practice and quality improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task, prioritize effectively deliver to deadline
  • Excellent performance and attendance record required
