Summary


The Shop Support Assistant will be required to perform tasks involving physical labor in the shop, and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities will include assisting other trades within the shop, maintenance and cleaning of interior and exterior of shop, minor fleet and forklift maintenance, loading and unloading of vehicles, assist in Tool Crib when required and delivery and pickup of materials.

The Shop Support Assistant will be responsible for following all safety protocols and workplace policies as applicable.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for deliveries and pickups, ensuring that appropriate delivery/packing slips have been delivered/turned in
  • Fleet maintenance including fuel, oil, washer fluid fillup, washing and minor repairs, plugging in during winter and ensure all keys are removed at days end. Report any major repairs to Automotive Mechanical Technician.
  • Tool up and detool job boxes and trucks as required.
  • Maintain shop, offices and exterior of building emptying garbage, changing light bulbs, sweeping floors, shoveling walkways, spreading salt and sand when necessary, grass cutting and property maintenance
  • Assist other trades with jobs lifting, cutting material, handling material, etc.
  • Lubricate, clean, maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and tools as required.
  • Load, unload, and identify materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations.
  • Conduct circle checks on trucks and forklifts (every morning)
  • Check gas bottles/welders
  • Assist in Tool Crib as required
  • Ensure Tool Crib and all doors are locked up at the end of the day
  • Comply with all safety legislation
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:


  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Experience as a General Laborer/Shop Assistance in a shop environment would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills
  • Time management skills
  • Commitment to quality and safety
  • Strong working mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor.

Work Conditions

  • Job requires ability to work with a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift objects more than 25 lbs.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment will be required (e.g. hardhat, safety boots, etc.)
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in conditions that include heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
  • Requires good manual dexterity.
  • Noise level is generally loud.
  • Excellent stamina is required.
  • Hazards associated with the industry.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 6 months


Salary:
$20.00-$25.00 per hour
