About the Role

Portfolio Management and Team Management

  • You will oversee a team of underwriters in order to build and grow a sustainable portfolio, leveraging our strong internal resources our Canada Casualty portfolio through new business and renewal opportunities.
  • Be the top referral point for the team. Analyze and assess risk profiles prepared and provided by your team.
  • Work with all key internal stakeholders to ensure that our product is competitive, our processes are efficient and that our underwriters have the tools & resources required to successfully fulfill their duties.
  • Mentor and open up development opportunities for team members.
  • Contribute to the North American portfolio steering messaging, along with the Head of FinPro & Casualty.
  • Support the Head of FinPro & Casualty in the quarterly reporting process.

Business Development

  • In collaboration with local Underwriting colleagues, oversee your team of underwriters and portfolio leader to develop and maintain a robust pipeline of new business opportunities
  • Support multiline Canada sales planning and execution with the local Sales team
  • Develop and oversee the execution of an international primary strategy for the Canadian business
  • Furthermore, you will be asked, from time to time, to participate on project work inside and outside the Casualty business.

External Representation

  • Develop distribution strategy for each individual line of business within Casualty.
  • Represent Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Canada via regular contact with Casualty broking leaders at our existing and new distribution partners across Canada.
  • Attend internal and external events, as required by the business.
  • Thought leader in the market (participate on panels, write white papers, etc.)

Product Research, Development & Innovation

  • Oversee the product suite within Casualty with the support and leadership of the Canadian Product Underwriter.
  • Assist in the development of new product opportunities, as appropriate
  • Assist in the adjustment of current products to meet the needs of the Canadian market, as appropriate

Other

  • Providing input into planning and controlling functions as appropriate.
  • Contributing to the operational needs of the Team as appropriate

About You

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience (including underwriting, portfolio steering and personnel management)
  • Strong technical underwriting background and customer focus mindset
  • Successful demonstration of developing and executing on strategic priorities, growing a portfolio of business in a sustainable way and building and maintaining strong internal stakeholder networks
  • Extensive network of broker and client contacts
  • Selfmotivated and takes initiative
  • Very strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
  • Position requires a willingness to travel (1020%)
  • English (fluency in French would be an asset)
