New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St.

Mary's General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.


Position Summary:


Reporting to the Manager of Decision Support and Business Intelligence, the Decision Support Specialist (ED, DI, Lab, and Pharmacy) is responsible for supporting the analytics needs of the Emergency (ED), Diagnostic Imaging (DI), Laboratory (Lab), and Pharmacy departments.

The Decision Support Specialist provides expert analytics, interpretation, and recommendations to improve clinical, statistical, and financial results to internal and external clinical and non-clinical leaders.

A highly skilled, evidence driven individual with exceptional analytical and communication skills and a demonstrated commitment to advancing business intelligence to enhance decision making will excel in this position.

This position will primarily be remote with occasional in-person workdays as required.


Position Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of related progressive experience in a health care environment.
  • Strong understanding of hospital funding methodologies, particularly PayforResults funding
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI
  • Proficient with SQL
  • Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of staff including physicians, patient service leaders, Ministry representatives and various other internal/external client groups.
  • Advanced knowledge of MOHLTC Reporting and MIS Guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of HSFR
  • Sound organizational, timemanagement, and planning skills with the ability to multitask and meet conflicting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with Oracle Cerner EMR
  • Master's Degree in related field

Position Responsibilities:


  • Extract, analyze, and synthesize data from disparate systems including IntelliHealth, Oracle Cerner, CIHI, and PayforResults
  • Report findings and datadriven recommendations to stakeholders in an accessible way to support decisionmaking
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to understand SMGH operations and systems
  • Delve into data to identify discrepancies, patterns, and trends
  • Work with leadership and internal teams to implement, evaluate, and monitor improvements
  • Profiling datasets to ensure high quality, accurate data for internal and external reporting
  • Prioritize deliverables according to SMGH's goals and strategic priorities
  • Define and analyze performance metrics and report to stakeholders on a regular basis
  • Perform cross‐functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
  • Work in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and its regulations, reporting hazards, deficiencies, and contraventions of the Act, in a timely manner.
  • Abide by all SMGH policies and procedures, (i.e., Occupational Health & Safety Act, Public Hospitals Act,) position obligations, and perform work duties in accordance with SMGH's Code of Conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.
