    Description

    Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering: Dept of Mechanical & Industrial Eng - St. George (Downtown Toronto)

    Description: Delve into nuclear reactor theory introducing the scientific principles of nuclear fission chain reactions. Lay a solid foundation for applying these principles to the nuclear design and analysis of reactor cores. Topics covered include basic nuclear concepts, atomic fission, neutron propagation and interaction with matter, neutron thermalization, diffusion model of a nuclear reactor, criticality, nuclear reactor kinetics, and reactivity effects.

    Sessional dates of appointment: September to December 2024

    Salary: $13,000 (per half course inclusive of vacation pay) per section. Please note that rates stipulated in the collective agreement will prevail if they vary from those stated.

    Minimum qualifications: Seek applicants with a robust record in presenting lectures or as a teaching assistant. Must showcase significant depth of knowledge and experience in the subject area along with excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

    Description of duties: Tasks include preparing lectures and course materials, delivering lectures, supervising Teaching Assistants, setting and marking projects, tests and exams, evaluating final grades, and engaging with students.

    The appointment will be finalized before classes commence by the Associate Chair (Graduate) of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.     Note: Preference in hiring is granted to qualified individuals at Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III level as per the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. Canadians and permanent residents will be prioritized in the selection process.
