This role is a Temporary, Full-time Contract role, running from April 3, 2023 until December 29, 2023.


The
Camp Support Staff, Kitchen supervisor and Camp Attendant will undertake a leading role in the kitchen of Camp Smitty ensuring healthy meals are prepared and served to camp and program participants and renters, as required.

The
Camp Support Staff, Kitchen supervisor and Rental Attendant will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and operation of all food services, including but not limited to, food ordering and preparation, development of a healthy menu, inventory monitoring and reporting and supervising kitchen staff.

The
Camp Support Staff, Kitchen supervisor and Rental
Attendant will also be responsible for assisting with rental groups and working with the Camp Manager to ensure positive experiences for the groups that come to Camp Smitty.

This position carries responsibilities in the areas of kitchen supervision, meal preparation, ordering and inventory, cleaning and supervising. The position also carries responsibilities in assisting with rental groups to ensure positive camping experiences.

Attendant will be flexible in their tasks and determine how best to support Camp Smitty in the upkeep of high-quality Camp deliverables.


Major Responsibility 1:
Kitchen Supervisor


Activities:


  • Prepare nutritious meals for small and large groups as required
  • Supervise daily kitchen activities
  • Assist with kitchen staff training.
  • Prepare a wellbalanced meal menu for each camp session.
  • Ensure proper storage of all foods and catering equipment.
  • Maintain the facility inventory.
  • Place food orders.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and wellorganized kitchen.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere within the kitchen.

Major Responsibility 2:
Administrative documentation and reporting


Activities:


  • Responsible to coordinate and oversee meal planning at Camp Smitty
  • Responsible for food inventory monitoring and reporting
  • Working within defined policies to ensure public health directives
  • Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety requirements and Public Health inspections
  • Effectively communicate with Camp Manager regarding kitchen concerns and issues
  • Maintain records of purchases and submit receipts in a timely manner
  • Work to ensure the most costeffective ways to deliver high quality meals
  • Follow the BGCO and camp policies and procedures
  • Attend staff training provided by Camp Manager
  • Actively participate in staff meetings
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and wellorganized kitchen.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Contributes to a positive and supportive atmosphere within the kitchen

Major Responsibility 3:
Assist in the operations of Camp Smitty


Activities:


  • Supervise rental visits and work with the Camp Manger to ensure positive camping experiences
  • Onsite presence during rentals including but not limited to supervising the kitchen and ensuring meals are prepared and served as required
  • Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health & Safety requirements and Public Health inspections
working within policy directives and in partnership with the Joint Health and Safety Committee

  • Work with rental groups fulfilling requests as needed
  • Assist in the overall vision and success of Camp Smitty

Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education/Experience:


  • At least 1 year of experience working in an industrial kitchen
  • At least 2 years of experience working in food preparation
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Safe Food Handling Certification or equivalent
  • WHMIS training considered an asset
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to the Camp Program

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities:


  • Experience working in kitchen facilities in a child/youthfriendly environment
  • Experience in managing kitchen services and ensuring diligent spending and tracking of purchases
  • Knowledge of smart food handling
  • Familiarity with the OH&S, Building/Fire/Safety/Environmental Codes and Regulations
  • A demonstrated track record of being proactive, solutionoriented, operating with a sense of appropriate urgency, and a high degree of flexibility to respond to a range of different work situations is desired
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to child and youth developmental factors and community issues and how they are impacted by physical environments
  • A strong background in meal preparation and delivery
  • Ability to organize and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with mínimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and be long term goal oriented
