About Our Opportunity:


As the Project Executive, you provide leadership in the identification, planning, implementation, integration, and evaluation of multi-function, cross-departmental capital school projects and facilities management for the public school sector.

You are responsible for developing and delivering an approach to school capital management and planning that responds to changing needs of communities in Nova Scotia.

You will provide strategic advice to government on capital priorities and manage the interests of the department in relation to the five-year capital plan and other capital and operational needs of the public school system.


Primary Accountabilities:


  • Responsible for development, management and implementation of policy in the area of capital project management and operations on behalf of the department.
  • Acts as the department's point of contact and liaison on all matters related to capital and operational projects through developing and maintaining formal partnerships and collaborative relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders internal to government and across the broader public and private sectors, capturing broader business and program interests.
  • Responsible for ensuring up to date information is provided to stakeholders, including the public, on approved capital construction projects.
  • Works closely with the Regional Centres for Education, the Conseil scolaire acadian provincial, and other government department colleagues in the development and management of the province's fiveyear capital plan for public education.
  • Works closely with Public Works in the delivery of school capital projects, including managing emerging projectspecific issues.
  • Represents the Department on government, industry, public/private, interdepartment and internal committees, project teams, and at conferences and meetings.
  • Lead and monitor the compliance of programs by analyzing reports and preparing summary and briefings to the Minister;
  • Engages with senior business leaders to understand longterm strategic challenges and takes responsibility for developing and delivering change management plans and achieving outcomes that support the department and government's overall strategy.

Qualifications and Experience:

You possess a relevant undergraduate university degree in an area relevant to the position. Your degree is accompanied by senior leadership experience. You have project management experience and training. An acceptable combination of training and experience may be considered.


You have confidence in your knowledge, professional judgement, and ability to problem-solve complex issues in a collaborative and responsive manner, in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

You will also possess exceptional interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to establish genuine and collaborative relationships with colleagues both within the organization and externally.

You have experience providing advice and developing recommendations to senior leadership. You are a demonstrated leader, strategic planner, team player, and independent thinker.

You have led the development, implementation and integration of policy, planning and strategic initiatives, ensuring sound research, analysis, and advice is provided and shared to inform decision making.

You direct and oversee the formulation, establishment and maintenance of new, revised and existing legislation and regulations required to meet the mandate.

You influence the direction of government policy on services and programs for families with young children in the province by providing key advice to the executive management team of the Department.

You exercise sound judgement under pressure. You are organized and flexible, with the ability to multi-task and manage resources. Your excellent speaking and writing skills allow you to communicate information through various succinct methods, accurately and efficiently.
