Core Outcomes

Food Services:
Meet high level service standards and presentation standards:

  • Performs meal service as required relating to beverage and meal service, plating of food, clearing, and cleaning of dining rooms etc. Plates and serves meals.
  • Under direct supervision of the Food and Nutrition Manager, the Dining Room Host/ Hostess performs basic routine duties of food preparation and delivery as directed.
  • Proper setting of resident tables including condiments as required.
  • Must always use safe work procedures and comply with safety rules and regulations.
  • Provides attentive and appropriate care and consideration of resident, family, and visitor requests.
  • Performing other related duties as required (e.g. Temperature / Food / Waste / Dish audits etc.)
  • Appropriately directs to the Food and Nutrition Manager any matters that may require corrective action.
  • May be responsible for dishwasher in serveries.
  • Portions, plates, and serves meals and food items in a manner that is visually appealing.
  • Provides attentive and appropriate interaction and consideration with residents, families and visitors clearing and cleaning of trays, dining rooms and or other eating areas with a focus on maintaining a healthy and clean environment.

Food and Equipment Safety:

Maintain sanitation processes and general area cleanliness:

  • A clear understanding and practice of safe food handling and sanitation practices as specified through AgeCare policies and procedures is required.
  • This position is responsible for maintenance of specific product inventory levels and replenishes as required and directed.
  • Responsible for the setting, clearing, cleaning, and sanitizing of resident dining and service areas.
  • Sanitation of food delivery tools and equipment (e.g. steam well etc.) with a clear focus on resident satisfaction is required.
  • Attends mandatory training and department meetings.

Resident and Employee Safety:
support a culture of safety in the workplace for residents, visitors, and employees:

  • Perform all duties in a manner in which resident safety is the focus & promote a culture of safety.
  • Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injury to a resident or employee.
  • Educate other coworkers/colleagues on proper safety techniques; observe and correct any unsafe behavior demonstrated by the residents.

Bistro Specific Tasks:
When assigned to the Bistro there are additional tasks as listed below:

  • Responsible for using the dishwasher in the Bistro.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies, unpack and store supplies and ensure areas are properly stocked and records are kept of quantities used.
  • Package food for takeout where permitted.
  • Pours and presents beverages, using equipment to prepare hot beverages, where available serve alcohol following legal requirements.
  • In locations with fee for service options, accepts cash and credit card payments, and presents receipts.
  • Greet residents and other patrons, present menu options and other food and beverage choices, answer questions regarding options and take orders; manage unusual requests in consultation with the Food and Nutrition Manager.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum Grade 10 is required.
  • Safe Food Handling is required, and for some positions, Safe Serve.
  • Formal training or equivalent on the job experience is preferred.
  • Experience with food service equipment (juice dispenser, dish machine, steam tables etc.)
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Minimum 18 years of age is preferred and required when serving alcohol.
  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to follow direction and have a willingness to learn.
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly.
  • Must be capable of routine work with mínimal supervision.
  • Possess strong leadership ability and the willingness to work in collaboration with others.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills interacting with residents, families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Able to be flexible and adapt easily to changes in schedule, work assignments and environment.
  • Have a positive attitude, be empathetic and motivated.
  • Demonstrates a caring, empathetic attitude in a professional and mature manner.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations in the workplace.
Physical Demands
