Job Description:


In this
Counsel role, you will be a member of the
Payments and Merchant Solutions Legal Team located in Toronto and you will provide legal advice and support for the UGO business as well as other areas such as Merchant Solutions.

You will work collaboratively with business, control functions and with other members of TD Legal to deliver high-quality legal advice, and coordinated advice and support:


  • Draft, review and be familiar with applicable terms of use and draft changes to such documentation and procedures when required
  • Advise on, draft and negotiate agreements with business clients
  • Assess legal and reputational risk of new initiatives or changes to existing products and services
  • Review marketing materials relating to these products
  • Be familiar and stay current with, as well as comment on the legislation and regulations governing these products, and advise relevant business units accordingly
  • Contribute to colleague development within the Legal Department by discussing relevant legal issues or regulatory changes that arise in the context of UGO or other areas you have experience with
  • Contribute to high priority special projects and Legal Department initiatives.

Requirements:


  • You have a law degree from an accredited law school and are qualified to practice law in Canada
  • You have 3 to 5 years of experience practicing law
  • You are high energy, curious and enthusiastic
  • You have superior analytical and communication skills both in legal and business settings
  • You can manage multiple deadlines and priorities while paying attention to detail
  • You are an independent thinker with excellent judgment who also has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple partners
  • Provide advice in a timesensitive and clear manner
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively with external counsel
