Opportunity


We are looking for a creative, hardworking and upbeat individual to join our Food Service team in the Housing Services Department.

In this role, you will help prepare and serve nourishing meals for individuals who are homeless or who have recently exited homelessness at Lift's Supportive Housing and Emergency Shelter programs.


This role includes a little bit of everything in a busy commercial kitchen environment: receiving and storing inventory; preparing ingredients and meals; serving food and interacting with clientele; kitchen clean-up and dishwashing; and general assistance to the Food Services Coordinator.

Overview

Hours: 35 hours/week

Hourly Wage: $22.65 to start, on a 5-step wage scale

Key Tasks and Competencies

  • Prepares ingredients and meals according to established recipes and menu.
  • Serves hot meals to program participants in a cafeteria style environment.
  • Answers questions, receives feedback and interacts positively with coworkers and program participants.
  • Performs a variety of inventory control duties such as storing and rotating food and supplies.
  • Ensures the safe storage and disposal of food and beverages.
  • Supports a variety of cleaning duties throughout shift such as cleaning storage areas and food preparation equipment through methods such as sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning sinks and counters, walls, ovens and freezers and removing garbage.
  • Maintain proper sanitation and preparation practices and procedures.
  • Maintains compliance with food safety regulations at all times.
  • Creates and updates paper and computer records.
  • Notifies managers of safety and maintenance concerns.
  • Transports prepared meals and ingredients between program sites.
  • Other kitchen duties as assigned by the Food Service Coordinator.

Qualifications:


  • Two (2) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Certificates in First Aid and Food Safe, or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid driver's license.
