Summary


The Native Women's Association of Canada (NWAC), located at 120 Promenade du Portage in Gatineau Quebec, is looking for an Executive Chef to join their ranks in their newly outfitted state of the art space, and to take the helm of their culinary operations.

The kitchen has been outfitted with the finest equipment on the market to accommodate a multi-faceted food and beverage program and to promote the ease of processes.


The kitchen space and supporting elements boast a wonderful Chef's Tasting table, a rooftop greenhouse, lots of open spaces to encourage gatherings and a sense of community, a creative outlet in the chef curated pantry, and of course a state-of-the-art kitchen to anchor the program.

The Pastry Chef is responsible for overseeing the Pastry section of the Commercial Kitchen. The Chef is accountable for the quality and consistency of all pastry products produced and served to the customers.

The Pastry Chef works directly with the Executive Chef on the creation, development, and implementation of the new deserts and creative menu developments.


General duties

The NWAC Pastry Chef will:

  • Oversee all daytoday operations of the pastry and bakery section of the kitchen.
  • Produce all baked foods including traditional and modern recipes to meet customer's demands.
  • Decorate pastries and desserts with the right toppings, icing, etc. Ensures foods presented to the customers are beautifully packed.
  • Check both raw and cooked food qualities to ensure that they meet health standards.
  • Ensures that the kitchen supplies and inventories are maintained
  • Ensure all dietary restrictions are met.
  • Ensure that cleanliness is maintained in all working areas. Also ensures the kitchen is organized.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in a volume food preparation environment in the health care or hospitality industry
  • Knowledge of all aspects of pastry production
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Working knowledge of special diets
  • Must have a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness
  • 2+ years professional pastry chef experience
  • 1 year hospitality experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Ability to prepare a variety of pastries
  • Must be able to prioritize work for self
  • Ability to multitask and establish priorities
  • Exhibit initiative, responsibility, and flexibility
  • Strong problemsolving skills
  • Flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
  • Must own a vehicle as there is no public transportation
  • Bilingualism is an asset
