The Role:

• The Die Setter/ Hammersmith will forge a variety of metal products in the company. A skilled worker is responsible for setting up, adjusting various sizes of dies into stamping presses to ensure parts are produced within specification, and maintaining metalforming dies and other tooling used in the production of metal components. This role is also responsible for performing any necessary die adjustments at set ups and to check accuracy during production.

Education:

• Completion of secondary school, training or seminars in relevant field is required.

Experience:

• 1+ years of experience operating industrial and forging hammers
• Conscientious about workplace health and safety
• Must be able to perform frequent standing, bending, twisting, reaching, and grasping on the field

- must be able to lift and move loads of up to 50 lbs

Detailed Skills and Duties

• Lights and loads furnace maintaining proper heat as required.
• Select dies for forging according to work order and specifications.
• Position aligns and bolt dies to ram and anvil of power presses and hammers.
• Replaces hammer boards and sow blocks.
• Makes adjustment and repairs such as adjusting board rolls, replacing pin in trip levers, etc.
• Makes repairs to furnace such as replacing baffles or fronts, etc.
• Tries out dies, submits sample for Foreman's approval and inspection.
• Sets up trim press according to specifications.
• Setup induction heaters as required.
• Operates die lift truck as required to assist in setup.
• Places material in die, trips hammer allowing enough hits in die block impressions to form an acceptable product, notifies Foreman of variations of stock, etc.
• Cuts off forged product for conveyor or piles on container.
• Manually removes material from furnace with tongs.
• Keeps hammer ways lubricated.
• Documents work completed.
• Instruct apprentices
• Position, align and bolt dies to ram and anvil
• Select dies for forging according to specifications
• Hammer out dents, buckles and defects using blocks and hammers
• Other duties as assigned.
