Overview:

The clinical physiotherapy extern will be working in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider.

Physiotherapy clinical externs work in collaboration with a regulated health care provider under direct and/or indirect supervision of an appointed healthcare professional.

They may perform pre-identified Controlled Acts authorized to physiotherapy within the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) of Ontario delegated to them under the supervision of a regulated healthcare professional who is authorized to perform them.

Qualifications:

Physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC)
Students who have successfully completed a recent clinical placement preferred
Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
Demonstrated infection prevention and control practices
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support considered an asset

Required Skills:

Practices under the direct and/or indirect supervision of the regulated health care provider assigned to them and in a manner consistent with organizational policies and professional standards
Works with allied health care professionals to ensure that they have the knowledge, skills and judgment needed to perform all actions/duties
Assists with patient support, safety and mobility acts
Demonstrates excellent problemsolving, decision making and critical thinking skills
Demonstrated excellent organizational and timemanagement skills
Participates as an active interdisciplinary team member
As part of the assessment process applicants may be required to complete a written and/or practical test
