Payroll & Benefits Specialist for our Finance department to join our rapidly expanding, dynamic team

WHAT THE ROLE ENTAILS:


Reporting to the Controller in the Calgary office, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all aspects of payroll processes are executed with the upmost care and attention to detail.

The incumbent will act as a primary contact for Lynx Air regarding pay-related inquiries and provide recommendations for payroll, pension, and benefit process improvements.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:


Process Canadian payroll:


  • Prepare, verify, process, balance, and audit semimonthly payrolls for salaried and casual employees, and Flight Crew and Cabin Crew (in accordance with crew agreements), provincial and federal legislation (for federally regulated employees), policies and procedures
  • Process monthly payroll adjustments and reconcile earnings and deductions
  • Calculate and process taxable benefits
  • Reconcile Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Employment Insurance (EI) contributions
  • Review payroll data and investigate and correct data integrity issues
  • Maintain adequate back up for payroll inputs and adjustments

Benefits administration:


  • Reconcile monthly benefit premiums and billings
  • Ensure benefits premiums are deducted accurately from employees pays and correct any discrepancies
  • Validate and correct errors in benefit interface files
  • Enroll new employees in the benefits program
  • Coordinate with the benefits providers for any issues or concerns
  • Benefits Administration that includes;
  • Ensuring beneficiaries are updated and complete
  • Ensuring employees are enrolled
  • Troubleshooting login concerns

Payroll processes:


  • Be willing and able to deliver superior service in answering routine questions from employees and crew
  • Process calendar yearend tasks (T4 reconciliations)
  • Assist with internal and external audit requirements
  • Work with Finance to resolve finance and payroll issues (i.e., GL account changes)
  • Support with regular system updates by testing payroll functions
  • Possible expense reports for crew processed daily through Avanti
  • Review Payroll processes and provide information on payroll system requirements and determine potential avenues for improvement

Coordinate with the Human Resources department on:

  • Onboarding: correctly setting up new employees daily and following up with new employees to fill gaps on missing information
  • Offboarding: correctly terminate employees daily taking into account final pay calculations, vacation owing, file Record of Employment with Service Canada etc.
  • Other payroll services as necessary

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:

  • Canadian Payroll Association's Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) accreditation
  • 5 years (or more) relevant experience in processing payroll and administering benefits (preference for Federal regulated industries)
  • Ability to manage priorities independently
  • Strong customer service and professional judgment skills.
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset
  • Very strong technical proficiency with an HRIS system
  • Critical thinker able to evaluate and interpret data to implement creative solutions
  • Problem solver who regularly seeks opportunities for improvement and implements positive changes
  • Capable of working in ambiguity and identifying an optimal approach for finding a resolution
  • Experience in payroll accounting
  • Experience working in a daily/hourly pay environment is a definite asset
  • Experience with continuous improvement or other project management initiatives is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Avanti payroll system is an asset
