Job Purpose


The Yard Person is responsible for activities of unloading raw materials and supplying the shop with required job specific material.


Responsibilities:


  • Displays a commitment to Waiward's incidentfree vision, values, and culture.
  • Reads, understands, and follows all safe work practices and procedures for machinery and equipment.
  • Uses the proper tools to meet the specific job requirements.
  • Unloads railcars with overhead cranes, as required.
  • Unloads truck trailers with overhead crane, as required.
  • Locates and loads material onto machines.
  • Stocks yard by putting away materials.
  • Retrieves materials from stock yard.
  • Returns offcuts to stock and empty scrap bins.
  • Maintains documentation.
  • Attends Daily Tool Box Meetings.
  • Follows work schedules.
  • Orgranizes multiple tasks and effectively delegates tasks when needed.
  • Follows and documents established procedures.
  • Takes reasonable care and cooperates with employer to protect the health and safety of all employees.
  • Reports personal injuries, no matter how minor, and obtains medical attention as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Basic and Advanced Rigging Course an asset
  • Coordination and manual dexterity required
  • The ability to work at heights as this may be required from time to time
  • The ability to work as a team with good communication skills
  • FLHA Training an asset
  • Certified Overhead Crane Operator preferred (internally delivered)
  • WHMIS

Working Conditions
The incumbent is required to work outdoors in a fabrication yard with moderate noise.


Physical Requirements


The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading.

The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time and will require good physical attributes for walking on uneven ground, climbing, confined space entry, limited lifting, and sitting.
