Working for the Department of Civil Engineering


The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate students some of the finest instruction and facilities in North America.

Our Department and School are located in the Markin/CNRL Natural Resources Engineering Facility. Today, more than 900 undergraduate and 500 graduate students are building their future and studying with our department.


Position


Reporting to the Academic Department Manager, the Curriculum Development and Accreditation Specialist is an integral member of the team supporting the department's academic operations and accreditation activities.

Working closely with the Associate Deans Graduate and Undergraduate, the Curriculum Specialist provides leadership, guidance and direction for departmental curriculum and programming changes.

Leads the administrative process for professional accreditation support with APEGA, which includes creating processes for data collection for all courses, documentation and responding to requests from the external accreditation body.


Duties
Curriculum and Program Planning and Management

  • Works closely with the Associate Dean, Undergraduate Studies, leading the continual improvement process for our department's undergraduate curriculum.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of our program requirements to track against the demands of industry and enrolment trends; develops work recommendations and strategies to improve the curriculum for our programs on an ongoing basis.
  • Works closely with students and faculty members as an embedded resource to ensure curriculum improvement is part of our regular operating processes.
  • Prioritizes curriculum development projects and requests, by tracking issues and areas of priority focus.
  • Responsible for all projects involving new programs, including proposal development and consultation with interested parties.
Professional Accreditation Support

  • Leads the development of ongoing data and information collection for the accreditation process which occurs every few years, but requires the collection and submission of annual data.
  • Develops training materials for data collection and preparation and delivers training sessions to academic faculty members as required.
  • Ensures the department is meeting the accreditation needs on an ongoing basis by regular evaluation of courses and metrics (for example, meeting the need that most instructors have a Professional Engineering designation with APEGA).
  • Works closely with the Department Chair and Dean's Office staff to ensure all understand how our operations meet accreditation needs.
Academic Programming and Support

  • Works closely with the Department Chair, and the Academic Department Manager to allocate teaching assignments based on faculty expertise and departmental needs.
  • Leads the process from our department to ensure the course scheduling and timetabling coordinator at the college has accurate information to manage the scheduling for all courses and classrooms.
