Manager of Investment Account Supports to join our team


The Manager of Investment Account Supports plays a critical leadership role to support and promote Alberta's investment attraction efforts, to enhance Alberta's economic competitiveness, growth and prosperity.

This position is responsible for leading a team of Investment Advisors that acts as a single point of contact for companies outside of Alberta who are interested in investing, establishing and maintaining presence in the province.


The Manager is the lead representative and primary negotiator with business executives from outside Alberta looking to invest in the province, providing market intelligence, contacts, referrals, and site location assistance to investors as needed.

The Manager and the team provide customized pathfinding services (e.g. source information, facilitate connections, coordinate resources, navigate regulations, and refer to relevant programs and services) to these prospective investors to inform and advance investment discussions, and Final Investment Decisions.

The Manager reports to the Director of Investment Relations unit within the Investment Attraction branch. The Investment Relations unit centralizes the investment attraction support, delivery and coordination functions within the Government of Alberta.

The unit employs a "pathfinding service" approach as one-window to government providing coordination and support services to qualified investors based outside of Alberta.

This is accomplished through creating and delivering internal and external coordination platforms, mechanisms, and services for Alberta's investment attraction ecosystem.


The activities of the Manager and the team have direct impact on the economic development of Alberta's key priority sectors, as well as inform the Government's strategic investment priorities and initiatives.


Role Responsibilities:


In your role as the Manager, Investment Account Supports, you will:

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Be the lead representative and primary negotiator with business executives from outside the province looking to invest in Alberta, providing market intelligence, contacts, referrals and site location assistance to investors as needed.
  • Build and maintain extensive networks with other orders of government, and economic development partners across the country to identify and promote opportunities to increase investment in Alberta.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with designated investment promotion agencies (IPAs) to deliver the Investment and Growth Fund program.
  • Maintain strong relationships with colleagues throughout the Ministry, related departments, and Alberta's IPAs to facilitate efficient and effective stakeholder outreach.
  • Direct staff's collaborative relationship between Invest Alberta Corporation (IAC) and other IPAs involved in investment relations, providing accurate information and assessments of investment opportunities. Ensure timely flow of relevant information on GoA programs and services to investors and stakeholders.

Program Support:

  • Lead the development of engagement strategies and continuous improvement of unit processes that support the coordination of information and support to qualified investors.
  • Contribute inputs, such as stakeholder intelligence and ecosystem trends, to the development and implementation of sector strategies.
  • Identify barriers to growth and investment and recommend changes or additions to policy and programs to address these issues.
  • Respond to investment leads generated by partner ministries or others, to test for viability and investment likelihood. Maintain current knowledge on investment policy and programs in other jurisdictions.

Leadership:

  • Put forward options that could contribute to the development and delivery of government program policy objectives.
  • Lead the team in a strong, systems thinking approach, in particular the identification of investment trends, interconnections and impacts.
  • Guide staff to identify innovative and effective approaches / alternatives, anticipate stakeholder reactions and manage issues and relationships effectively.
