The Department of Mental Health and Community Wellness is seeking a strong leader for the position of Indigenous Partnerships and Wellness Lead/Consultant.

The suitable individual will have experience leading initiatives and strategies, have an excellent knowledge base and understanding of Indigenous communities, and experience building strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Essential:


  • Postsecondary degree in health, social sciences, public administration, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience leading and directing the planning, development, implementation and execution of initiatives and strategies related to access and barriers faced by Indigenous populations.
  • Extensive experience in Indigenous engagement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities including the issues, trends and barriers faced by these communities related to health, wellness, mental health and service access.
  • Experience building strong working relationships with marginalized communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate and build strong relationships with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication skills to prepare recommendations and authority seeking documents for senior executives.
  • Strong verbal communication with ability to effectively deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills to find creative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Political acumen for navigating sensitive issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Leadership skills to oversee and support the work of staff.

Desired:


  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language.

Duties:


The Indigenous Partnerships and Wellness Lead/Consultant engages Indigenous communities, governments, rights holders, other Indigenous led groups, organizations and service providers to reduce barriers and improve access to mental health, wellness, health promotion and addictions services in Manitoba.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Performance, this position will build strong relationships with stakeholders, and lead extensive engagement to support planning, policy and program development and implementation to communicate issues, risks and opportunities impacting mental health and wellness within Manitoba's Indigenous population.
